Is it normal for 4 year old to be terrified of flies?

My little brother is 4. He's absolutley terrified of flies, bugs, ants and other crawling insects. Why is this? Its OTT. He clings onto you for dear life and is in crying fits. Its like hes actually glued to you he clings on SO tight.

I don't know, but he crys if we leave him alone if hes seen a fly. Its summer and theres loads of them about, he too scared.

Any solutions?

    Thankyou, now that it's not summer, we hardly see flies etc. However mothch occasionally appear & he thinks it's a mosquito and still gets extremely terrified! :) thankyou anyway!

    I'm 23 and I'm terrified of flies. There is a way to desensitise kids though. I used to be terrified of insects expecally spiders, but now spiders are my favorite animal. It took 6 months but the fear is gone (except flies they scare the crap out of me)!

    I am 18, and I can't stand flies. When one comes into the house, I literally chase it down till I have it cornered and I spray it with Raid Flying Insect. Plus where I live there are clouds of flies. My little brother is 10, and he hates them, too. I find them disgusting and repulsive because they carry maggots and I'm scard a fly will land on me and lay an egg on my face.

    My sister is 14 and freaks out at every insect she sees. When she was much younger she would cry and cling on to you. I thought it was weir but I think it's common place.

    My baby sister is like this with bugs too. We figured that she saw how we acted around bugs. U know how people can get around those things haha. But she saw how we acted and she felt unexplained fear. This might be what is happening to ur brother. Try showing him that bugs are no big deal. Touch one and tell him that they r cool. Make him touch one maybe

      Thanks! That might help & I am terrified of spiders and so is he but my 5 yr old bro loves insects and touching/holding them etc. But he's scared of dogs and me and my 4 yr old bro love dogs! I'll try to show him to touch a ant but he'll run away... :/ x
