Is it normal eating

Is it normal that my son forgets how to eat sometimes? He's 28 and every once in awhile (maybe three times a year or so) he forgets how to swallow food. When this happens, his friend Patrick usually uses a funnel to "reteach" the act of eating. Does this happen commonly or is it just my son?

Err.. Having a hard time swallowing could also mean depression. And that is quite serious. I am not sure about this, but seeing a doctor would probably the best solution. I wish you the very best for you son.

Seriously not normal. I'm a physician and I've never heard of this. The big thing we think of with difficulty swallowing, or dysphagia, is a stroke. Although I doubt that's what this is--I'm not trying to scare you! I'd suggest meeting with a neurologist. It sounds like an issue that originates in the brain.
