Is it normal cant talk with just one other person

I can talk great in groups, and excellently in a large group, or in a classroom like setting, but i have trouble talking to just one other person. Why?

    i had a friend like that!
    he did exellent in high school when it came to speaking to the whole class. but when he was hitting on girls he would burn and crash.
    so cant help ya
