Is it normal british people look older than americans?

Not at all trying to insult. I'm sure some look their age or younger but MOST look a whole lot older and Is that normal?

When I traveled all around the UK for half a yr with friends, I noticed this as did my friends. They have lots of wrinkles around the eyes, their skin looks older, etc.

When we were there, we were all 25 and many of the people kept saying "wow, I thought you were all about 14, you look so young". One of them even said to us that when they were in America, they realized a lot of the girls look a lot younger than they are. I think that's not true, I think we look our age. In my country of America, no one ever says I look young, many think I even look slightly older but there, I was a child.

Even the cab driver made a comment, "are your parents coming with you?" and wouldn't let us in until we showed ID as he said he was concerned. We were all IDed too to buy alcohol and a man even asked me if I had a fake ID.

When we were in a museum and were near students from a secondary school, we were like "what? they're in high school and they look like that?" Apparently they were all 15 year olds. They all looked about 22-25!

Also, my friend's cousin is 29, she's English as is her entire family and her cousin looks about 55. She has about 100 wrinkles on her face and a sagging chin area as well as wrinkly arms. Her husband is 28 and looks about 55 as well as he has one patch of hair on the back of his head, about 5 wrinkles layered under his eyes, his jawline is hanging too like an older person (chicken chin) and he just looks a lot older. You would definitely think he was 50 something. Her younger cousin is 13 and looks older than us as well and when we went out, a 30 year old man hit on her! Because she looks about 30! She's 13.

We even went to a hostel and we thought we were the youngest ones there and were afraid to talk to them because they all looked old enough to be our mother/father until there was a mingle night where you meet everyone and we found out we were the second oldest there. All of them were 21-23! We were shocked and they were too. They said "wow, Americans look so young" (there were 6 of us) and all the other people agreed. They all said they thought we weren't even of age to be there and were confused. One person even thought we were the kids of the owner! The owner is 37 lol.

That is because Great Britain is older than the United States.

I have not been to UK so I don't have personal experience like you do, but this does seem strange. I would have guessed that people in UK would be healthier bcuz HFCS is banned and GMOs and things are less tolerated from what I can tell. I thought that Americans were thought of as fat and toxic. Perhaps we are but we look younger at the same time?? lol who knows

If I remember correctly, 33% of Americans are obese and 28% of people from the UK are obese so it's not that far behind as the average women and man in the UK are only slightly different in weight and are pretty much the same.

We don't really go in for beautifying like a lot of Yanks do, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who uses teeth whitener here, for example, we tend to prefer to be more "natural".

I'm British, 20 years old people always think I'm 17/18, I've also met people who are mid 20's who I have thought are late teens. Maybe we're just not overusing the old needles and plastic like you guys.

    • I don't use needles or plastic nor do my friends or the people I went to college with. I didn't say all look older so I'm sure what you say is too, just happened that we were always taken as younger and more than one person said Americans look so young as well as most people we saw just seemed to look a lot older than they are.
