Is it normal breadown after dog chewed hat.

Today I found my dog chewing up my new hat, given to me by my aunty and uncle that I hardly see (I love them) I find my dog chewing it up in the hallway and I just meltdown. I grab it off him angrily and kick him. I walk to my room and sit down. Then I just look at it and begin to cry. I kept thinking about how it meant alot to me. And I also knew it was just a hat. I sort of now it is pretty normal but, I wanted to get some opinions.

P.S I'm the type of guy that doesn't cry often, If I hurt myself or lose something, I normally just get pissed of and then get over it. I think I have alot of built up sadness, Maybe I'm depressed?

    I hope you didn't kick your dog too hard! I know you were upset, but a hat is just a hat and can be replaced, but a dog is the best friend.

    You need to learn how to deal with life. Also if the hat was so important why do you leave it laying around?

    Unless the dog was about to attack your neck for taking his new hat toy, there was no reason to kick him. Meanie!!!

    Alright dogs are like children. When you have a child you know to keep stuff they might drink or eat out of reach. This is the same with animals. If you want to train your dog to not eat certain things train it. You can do this by giving it one item and saying "Drop it" taking it away and replacing it with something it can chew. This makes it associate chewing only with that toy rather than chewing up anything else.

    i can understand why you were so upset thats what makes most items valuable is the sentimental attachments we put to them

    Shit, I forgot mention that the dog wouldn't shut up, I let him out to get air and go to the toilet. He did and came back in, he also chewed my flip flops and ate food on my desk. Everytime I closed my door he'd scratch at it. :(

    And no, I didn't hit him enough to hurt him. I was just so pissed of that I broke down ;-;
