Is it normal black people discriminate against dark skin black people?

I never understood it. Black people will have something to say to a person who acts racist (which everyone have every right to not tolerate racism) BUT will discriminate against their own race. For example I've personally heard black men say things along the lines of, "A light skinned chick looks better/is better than a darker girl," or "She's too dark." Oh and by the way I consider myself African American.
It sickens me. I find that even my long-time boyfriend might see color, telling me things like I'm the first light girl he's dated. I have moments when I think that if was dark skinned he would feel a certain way about it (but for what?). But I'm speaking on black people as a whole. Are black people that obsessed with color that they don't realize this is discriminatory and degrading also? That black people of a lighter skin shade aren't automatically better or more attractive?

I know what you mean all too well. I myself am black and the racism between blacks is very annoying. I'm light skinned and they have this idea that light skinned black people think they're better than everybody else, so I was commonly excluded by a lot of fellow black females for this reason. I hate it! I think it's ridiculous and purely ignorant. Not only are we all people, regardless of skin color, but considering we are all black, we all have the same history. We have the same back ground and had to fight for the same rights. It is purely ridiculous! I hated it mostly in high school as it was then where a lot of girls immedialty assumed I was stuck up when, truth is, I was never one to judge someone by the color of their skin. Unlike they were, I was very welcoming to anyone and the fact that I was lighter than some of them never phased me. I've witnessed more black on black racism then there was any other kind of racism. It needs to stop, though, definatly, because it's childish, ignorant, immature, and there's is just no reason for it.

    • I like what you said about black people having the same history. Why fight and degrade each other especially over a skin tone??? This mentality has to stop I mean look at the damage its done already.

The lighter skinned they are, the higher in the nigger hierarchy they are cause deep down, they all wanna be white!

This makes me laugh. Back in high school two of my black friends always fought about who was darker. They would call each other things like The Darkness and Oil Stain. The funniest part is that they were the same damn shade of black and it was a pretty dark shade but neither wanted to be the darker one.

Since the "whiter" a black person is is supposed to be bad, why wouldn't the darker skinned people be the ones be he better ones?

    • I don't understand what you are saying. I was saying why are black people so obsessed with color to the point they discriminate against themselves and put others on a pedestal or treat unfairly. To answer your question, no one should be "better". Thats the whole point of my thing.
