Is it normal a movie ruined a series for me?

Spoilers on Daredevil.

I'm a fan of comics. A few years ago I was a huge fan of Frank Miller. I absolutely loved his take on Daredevil. He portrayed him as such a noble hero. The most memorable part that I remember was when he saved his archnemesis, Bullseye, from being hit by a train, he told him "I wanted you to die I wanted to hear your crushed bones under the tracks. But I saved you instead." (Or something like that) Frank Miller's writing is pure poetry. Anyway I saw the Daredevil movie which was a piece of shit. The most infuriating part was that the noble hero was turned into a creep that found murder orgasmic. It ended with Daredevil kicking Bullseye out of a window, killing him. Who thought it was a good idea to turn the noble hero into the man without mercy?

I stopped reading Daredevil and anything Frank Miller, I did read about other heroes of course. Recently, a friend asked me why I stopped. I didn't have an answer. After reading Batman Year One (another piece of Miller's genius) I kept thinking about why I stopped reading and I honestly think the movie was so bad it turned me off from the Daredevil comic completely.

I know a lot of people say "Oh the movie ruined -blank- for me" and I always thought they were whiners, but it's nearly been ten years since that terrible movie. I went nearly ten years without reading anything from a once loved writer. I really do think the movie ruined Daredevil for me. Is it normal that a movie ruined a series for me?

    • I've never even touched a fantastic 4 comic. I even get pissed when they make a guest appearance in comics. Fuck! Did a movie ruin Fantastic 4 for me too?

It's normal but if F.M is a poetic genius you shouldn't let the film ruin his work. I've seen many films that were based on books. Some were fantastic and others didn't stick with the original plot. Look at the spiderman trilogy, the first two were great but the last one was mostly a sappy piece of crap. Despite this, I still want to read the comics. Even the Harry Potter films weren't true to the books, but I still enjoy the series. Give it another chance:)

    • I didn't even realize that the movie ruined the writer for me until nearly 10 years later. I'm reading his stuff again though. So I did give it a chance another chance. :)

Comics are an interesting piece of storytelling. There is never just one writer or one story. There are hundreds sometimes thousands of issues all for one character. The character really stands out. I wouldn't have an issue if the movie changed the plot since plots in comics are already very flexible. Daredevil was ridiculously noble. The movie made him the opposite of noble, he was a different person. Sometimes there are bad movies but they normally don't get the character's personality completely wrong.

I've never read the comics, but I remember the film. I really liked it, and thought the concept was genius. A blind hero? Brilliant! And I think the film actually holds up even today. But as I've said, I've never read the comics, so I can't comment further on that. Did the same guy actually write the film script? If he did, maybe that's the problem. If not, then the movie just plain ruined it for you. This happens to me a lot, but not to this extent. If I like a particular show or film and I read the ending or learn something I don't like about the actor in it, then that just changes everything and I can't continue watching it. It's like a sick feeling. But I'd say it's pretty normal. You could delude yourself that the film adaption doesn't exist, and only the comics are canon (which, really, they are).

I mean, yeah I see why but if the guy is a creative genius that shouldn't stop from reading his work.
