Is it normal ...to want something so much?

I've been talking to this guy. We were friends for 7 years, the feelings for him was always, he's a friend. However, last year the feelings changed and I was acting differently.

On my birthday, I invited him to hang out and it was the first time. We went kareoke, personally it was BORING! seriously I was somewhat disappointed. While I was walking him home, I apologized for not having a good party and he said he did have fun. He said I looked pretty today and that he secretly slipped his present in one of my bag, but I knew.

2 days later he called...which he never called not that I remember. He was asking me who do I like..and I told him ..it's you but it's not certain. We talked more and my feelings were clearer and after a month I confronted him that I was sure.

We were talking on the phone more and more and I was so sure that I was liking him and it seemed like he was too. His best friend is the girl who hates me and so do I, so it was hard to hang out with him at school.

After a few months, we talked less I'm not so sure why but it all seemed to fade away slowly, but despite that I know I still like him. We have fewer eyes contact, one day we chatted on MSN and he asked ''Do you still like me?'' at that moment I was expecting something from him, but how can I say ''Yes''. I ended up saying ''Why?'' He then said..''Don't like me, I don't want to flirt with anyone cos I like her (his best friend) I'm sorry'' Yeah..that was breath-taking and I was crying.

After that day..my feelings for him was more than ever, I find myself always staring at him. And yes..he knew he turned around looking at me and quickly turned to stare at her and playing around with her.

It hurts...but I just don't know what to do and every time I turned to them they were always playing around and it's not shes with him..shes with everyone ...

Is it normal that after talking to him and he turned me down like this...I still want him so badly..
