I am 26 comments away from the big ten thousand. Should I look at this and be happy to have contributed so much, or should I be sad as I could have spent the time doing something else?

I think you deserve an MBE from the management for outstanding contributions to mankind or at least a T-shirt.
I'd accept a T-shirt. I've got mint raita all down the front of the one I'm wearing at the moment. :/
A request has been duly sent to the management. If they don't give you one, I think that's pretty mean spirited of them. Not withstanding the mint raita situation which is embarassing and inconvenient. Are you sure it is mint raita and not another similar substance? lol

If I calculated it right my comment total is 6,449 and I've been on here for 7 months
& 2weeks.
I think you should get a personal thank you from the staff here. Possibly even some type of gift (T-shirt or something better)
I hope staff here agree with that, and actually do it.
Mind you I remember my 10,000th post on another forum (closer to 20K when I left) I got a lot of thanks and well dones but no gift, honestly I was a little dissapointed, but obviously kept going anyway.
For what its worth, well done on this achievement soon to be reached (if not already by now)

I'm at 1,157. I didn't know I had THAT many and then I look at other user's totals and I am blown away.

Go to My Stuff / My Comments, and look at how many pages of comments you have. You get twenty comments per page so multiply the number by twenty. Then go to the last page and see how far short of twenty it is. Subtract that from your total and voila, that's how many comments you've made.

I do spend quite a bit of time in the chatroom though. And I have quite a bit of polls/stories on here too.
As of this moment, I have 5,661 comments.
This here comment makes 5,662 :)

I've got 2440 :) I'd be proud to reach the big 1-0-0-0-0 ^_^ Maybe I will some day... but I'd need to comment more than I do now. Once I used to comment 20 times a day regularly, now my last 20 comments go back to over a week ago :/
In fact, I've been here for nearly a year. That means I've left just under 7 comments a day, on average :P
Whoa, I never thought about this....I have 3,680. I make a TON of polls and stories too so dang, I write on here a lot. I don't know....I can't really say if it's an accomplishment or not. Tough question. I mean, if I helped someone with a comment I made, then that's great, but I doubt even half of my comments were helpful, probably more obvious answers, arguments, simple yes/no type answers, jokes and the like.

I guess it depends on how long you've been here :) If you've been here 2 days and commented 10,000 times, that's pretty saddening. If you've been here 2 years, then that's understandable.

For me, I'm on 499 pages and the last page has 10 comments, so (499*20)-(20-10) = 9970 which means I'm now further away from 10,000 than I was when I posted the story (probably down to people deleting my comments, which happens a lot).
This is number 9971. Twenty nine to go! :D
You should just count all the comments you've made in total. Including the make believe accounts and the other one you have.
I'm sure you've posted over a thousand comments here already.
I don't think I can count comments that weren't made by me, even if you've convinced yourself I made them.
You could always ask TheManagement; I'm sure he has logs of which IP addresses logged into which account.
I think you probably have more fun believing what you believe, though. It gives you a metaphorical shovel to repeatedly hit me in the face with.
I wouldn't want to take away your shovel.
