Is it normal - insomnia

Ok, So Im A Dude In High School. I Get (On Average) 2-3 Hours Sleep A Night. This Messes Up My School Work, My Mood, My Eating Habbits, My Looks, ETC. I Just sit in my bed untill usually 5ish in the morning. Sometimes i watch youtube videos or play video games all night, sometimes i just masturbate untill i cant go on. some nights i just feel compleatly stoned yet wide awake. I barley eat anything, but I drink vast amounts of caffinated drinks such as Redbull and Coffee. ive stopped the caffine, but I still have chronic insomnia! Is it just me wasting away by my own all night or is this a kind of normal thing for a teenager or adult?! thanks!

    I have insomnia as well.
Its late right now actually and I'm contemplating on trying to sleep again only to lay for hours until 5 and then be really pissy tomorrow or just stay up and act as if it has just been a really long day.

It's normal for a teen. Add ritual caffeine intake, and you've a larger problem. Staying up late, larger problem. Stimulating activities (computer, video games) before bed, worse.
Contrary to popular belief, TV (watching and engaging, not listening to the drone) and video games make it harder to sleep, as you're stimulating your brain by doing so. Even after you've stopped your mind is still thinking and can't calm down enough to sleep. Stop TV/games an hour before you want to sleep, raise the temp in your house (high temp hightens 'drowsiness'), and keep off the caffeine until your sleeping's back in order. Even afterward, limit your intake: you should only have 1 can of caffeine/energy drink a day, and only a few of tea/coffee.
I'd adjust to this, and if insomnia still continues after several weeks (caffeine remains in the body for days), only then would I see a doctor and attempt sleep tablets.

It's normal in the sense that lots of people get it so I think the word I was really looking for is its 'common'. I suffered from insomnia for a brief period of about 6 months. I count myself lucky because I know people who have had it for years. Treat it before its too late and if you can't sleep it usually isn't a good idea to start playing video games- you should be trying to find ways to relax not stimulating it. Don't get too wound up about it because in most cases, you will get better- just think you were able to go to sleep before so OBVIOUSLY you can go to sleep again =D
