Is it norma that i arrange my house in a certain way

I have never noticed myself doing this before, but I pay attention to the tiniest details. I want things to be done a certain way. I am 17 and a lot of my friends always make fun of me wanting to do everything perfectly. Even my mother gets mad at me. She always says that a lot of parents would be proud of their kids trying to do things right, but that she is feed up of the way I handle things.

I go around the house arranging things and wanting them to be a certain way. In school as well. My table and chair have to be a certain way. And so much more I just cant explain. Is this normal?

I get like that at my work. I don't know why, but I guess its because when I'm making someone a sandwich I know its not my sandwich, so I have to make it extra nice for them.

For example; If they wanted roast beef, swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato with horseradish on a roll. I'd open up the roll nicely, put h-radish on both sides of the roll, a good handful of rb on, then maybe two or three slices of cheese side by side, then a big piece of lettuce(a really green slice), usually two or three tomatoes, and I cut it in half.

But I mean, I really pay attention to how it looks, so they realize that I really care about the customers. Plus, I take pride in the sandwiches I make. Not necessarily because I think things have to be perfect. The closest thing in this world to perfection is probably imperfection.

I mean, obviously its going in their stomachs anyway. But I just want them to see that I'm trying.

Perfectionism can be a gift as well as a curse. If somebody starts saying something about ocd, I swear...

Ah, It is just that obsessive compulsive disorder is misconceived and over-diagnosed a LOT and many people think or say they have it when really they do not. This is kind of a pet peeve for me. I took a psychology class in college and learned that many people have mild forms of common disorders(OCD, bipolar, ADHD, ADD, etc.) but the people who actually have them are far fewer. Also, kids think it is cool or something to say that they have these disorders. They will say (and I am quoting another IIN user here), "I like to sort M&M's by color, I must have OCD." No. If you actually had obsessive compulsive disorder FOR REAL, you would be hindered in your ability to function correctly in your every day life because of it. Sorry if I rambled :)

  • I'm the same way. If they're not they way I want, I feel uncomfortable. It's normal.
