Is it necessary to have friends?

I think human contact is important to ones mental health. So I would think at least one friend would be important to offer companionship.

Havent you seen cast away?
thats a pretty good example of needing someone to talk to.

You should have friends, I wouldn't have been able to get through school and life as well as I have so far without friends. They are to me huge ways of seeing and testing my character, giving advice and support. Making friends in the workplace is even more useful because you can keep up to date with things more easily.

I've gone extended periods without a single friend. It's ok.

I would guess that a person could go through life without making any friends. We all have plenty of acquaintances whom we associate with on a daily basis, so it wouldn't be a life devoid of human contact.
But I couldn't imagine a life where one did not make a single friend. One or two human beings you enjoy being around, being close to and caring deeply for.
How absolutely lonely life would be if one only cared for themselves and nobody cared deeply for them.

Friendships are unneccessary because you really only need yourself in the long run. However, friendships are nice to have. In fact, they're very nice and they could be the best things that ever happen to a person.

You *could* live alone, but I'd rather not. I would literally commit suicide if my friends weren't there. And if they were, they'd stop me from doing it because we love each other so much.

Friends help you in many situations and help you understand things, which you, uh, don't understand. You could also share your feelings with them because if they don't care about your feelings, WHAT KIND OF FRIEND ARE THEY?! ...They'll comfort you and make a solution for it, like, even advice you, uh, stuff.
