I think the whining about the US has to stop and I'm not American.

There are people who dream of the thing that alot of you guys take for granted. You might not think about it too much but access to clean water is what alot of people outside the US only can dream about.

People need to appreciate on what they got.. not what they don't have.

I think it would be better to live in Canada (coming from a a Canadian) because you're offered free healthcare.

I hear that the U.S. has a huge deficit, and a large amount of people there are totally broke and living off of food stamps.

If you get sick once and health insurance doesn't cover it, you may have to pay medical bills for 10 years or more.

Jesus... you make it sound like the US is a terrible place to live. It isn't. So many people focus on the negative with us- it's slightly irritating.

I live in South Dakota. I have a well-paying job, plenty of insurance, and a house. My city is beautiful and the people here are friendly and helpful. I love living here despite the bad rep about Americans.

I'm not saying I'd never leave but the US isnt the cesspool that some non-Americans like to go on about. Well except Detroit. (Just kidding!)

Well, that's a good point. There are people in the U.S. with fairly favorable situations and outcomes, but I think that applies to nearly everywhere else you can travel to. There's good too, right? The people there are as human as anywhere else and might get demonized some.

They do sometimes get shown in a bad light, but I also think their government and media have some significant downfalls.

There are other countries that I think have people worse off than the U.S. though.

Our government and media does have significant downfalls. But as you said, the same can be said about other nations too in varying degrees.

The problem is that the US is such a big player on the world's stage that we get a lot of attention both good and bad.

It's like how some people automatically feel the need to hate something thats popular just because they don't want to be on the bandwagon. Like it makes them feel special to disparage something that other people like.

I agree with you. Our country has it's problems, every country does. We're fairly new in the grand scheme of things, but since we're so powerful, any mistake we make is blown into something huge.

Have you ever gone to other countries?

Before you start bashing where you live, take a trip to another country where things aren't so good.

Sure I know it's the new "in" thing to hate your country and how you live (often while you're still living that way)... but you need to go see how others live too.

Countries where electricity is a luxury. Where begging isn't just one or two people on the street, but entire droves of children. Where sewage flows freely down the city street.

Hell when I was in the Navy we'd always complain about our food sucking.
Then we'd do an operation with another country... and our 'crappy food' was a luxury to them.

My point? perhaps you should consider being grateful for what you have.
or consider moving to another country.

Wait... who are you responding to? I don't think the OP was disparaging his country. And are the people in countries where "things aren't so good" also supposed to go to places where things are worse? There's nothing wrong with people trying to find a better opportunity for themselves, whether they end up getting it or not.

Not to mention, doesn't your last sentence contradict everything you said? :/

A country built up on deaths of thousands of innocent lifes. A country built up by a lying backstabbing corrupt goverment.
A country filled with uneducated people.
A country that brings pain to this world.
A country that makes people think theres glory and honour in killing.

That pretty much explains America, most people there are great tho, my family lives there and so does most of my friends, people are pretty friendly there but if you look at it from above, USA is a tool for the devil.

compared to the rest of the world, the US is actually a relatively new country. You've just described the history (at one point or another) of every country in the world.

Typical college-fed bs. Teaching people to hate the US, hate the military, and ignore everything that's good. and then assume anything that's good is somehow coming from evil.

Or rather, ... making up reasons to justify hating.

Hey doofus, the USA has its problems, sure. But EVERY country has its problems! At least you can't be killed for having the "wrong" beliefs. At least if you have a daughter, she won't be killed. At least you're free to have as many kids as you damn well please. At least you can practice whatever religion you want, or have no religion at all (as long as we don't elect Prick Perry into office in 2012). All these people who are coming here, both legally AND illegally, don't know what they're doing, right? It's not like they're coming here to escape persecution or to get a better life. Oh wait... Seriously, every country has its issues, and no country is absolutely wonderful. But I think America isn't too bad. I think people just hop on the "it's cool to hate America" bandwagon, and that's what this post sounds like to me.

        exactly.

Many other countries will silence you if you protest. Your freedom of speech is not considered a god-given right.

For example when I was living in Japan I'd was keeping tabs on the earthquake news in China. Always interesting to see people protest to their government about the dangerous conditions their children had been in... only to find themselves silenced. Or rather intimidated with punishment if they didn't stop complaining.

Or how about the countries in the Middle East where women are physically punished for daring to do things like play soccer, drive cars, or get jobs?

The real tragedy in the US is how many people take their freedoms for granted. And how some even like spitting on the military who are ready to die to protect those very freedoms.

No shit, Sherlock. Men, women, and kids are killed in the US. They are killed everywhere. But at least here there's no "one child per couple" law (as much as I would LOVE one here!). In China, if you had a girl, the daughter would generally be killed, since a girl wouldn't carry on the family name. I don't know if the law has lifted or not, it may have by now since China's economy has gotten a bit better. I don't know, but all I know is...America has it better than quite a few countries out there. We have the freedom to say what we want, believe what we want, and do mostly what we want (within reason of course). I stick by what I said before, that it's "trendy" to hate America, so many people do hate it without even knowing WHY they hate it.

America is a great country. Does it have its problems? Yes, which country doesn't.
If you're willing to workreal hard and actually look, there are some jobs to be found.

Personally, the Americans who tell you just how awful it is over here are a bunch of pussies. They've probably never had to go a day without food or a place to sleep, and they don't realise talking shit about your country could get you in some major trouble elsewhere.

Well, Italia these years has changed a lot. Now in Italy there is a lot of racism (they hate and dispreciate black people or african, i mean foreigner in general), and all the men thinks only about sex. Now there's no work for young people, not even for old people. It is becoming a poor country. It sucks! But, as someone said here, I thank god because I eat every day and I sleep in a bed

Yes, sure. If you're okay with living in an extremely religious culture (expect to be forced to swear upon the bible at police stations and such), having some redicilous laws, and to live in a country that is mocked globally.

So if you're fine with all that, then sure.

The U.S. is a large country and not as uniform culturally (or geographically/climate-wise) as other places (such as Italy). Whether it would be a place you would like depends on your your personality and where you end up.

i live along a coastal area in southern california and the downside is that it is impossible for me to find a job and the cost of living is pretty high and as a result of me not having a job i don't have health insurance since i can't get it through a job or have a steady source of income to get insurance elsewhere. the upside is that it is a very beautiful place, there is plenty to do as far as entertainment, there is a lot of diversity with different religions/ethnicities/cultures etc... and it is an overall welcoming and safe place. i won't lie and say it is a perfect place to live in but i can't really complain since the pros outweigh the cons and i've got a roof over my head and plenty of food on the table. i'm just grateful to have those basic things and i think i would feel that way no matter where i lived.

it's a good place with a lot of good people but if you're just looking for wealth, I wouldn't advise moving. Not everyone here is rich. If they were, who'd be making the coffee and changing the oil? If it's your dream to move then do it, but don't expect a fairy tale.
