Is it good to be a realist?

I consider myself a realist. Despite having my head in the clouds, but I tend to keep my feet on the ground. I just see life as not always working out the way you want, so a lot of times I don't get my hopes up on anything. I never get surprised by the bad things people can do. I don't always focus on the negative part of being a realist, I can find it difficult sometimes because I can see both sides of the table. Hmmm... Maybe I am just cynical in the belief that everyone is cynical and is in some way a hypocrite. I know I can be when it comes to certain things.
