Is it creepy to message a girl you've never met on twitter?

We go to the same high school, however we've never had any classes together or anything as she is a year younger. I've always thought this was a creepy thing to do, however I don't have any other way to try to strike up a conversation.

I've tried asking this other places and gotten mixed reviews, some saying it's normal and others saying it will come across badly.

Should I try and go for it, or would it be too creepy?

    Why do you want to talk to her?

    Seems normal to me. Conversations generally aren't creepy because of where you're having them; they're creepy because of what you say and do in that conversation. So long as you actually have something to say to her, go for it.

    As a female, I can say that she will definitely bring it up to her friends and talk about it. She'll probably send screenshots and depending on what she's like will be how creepy she sees it. When an older guy from school starts talking to me on Twitter I mostly see it as he wants to use me for naked pictures. I would probably find another way just to save you the embarrassment.

        Then it's perfectly okay. You don't have any classes with her, so you don't have a chance to talk to her in person. It's the way you two communicate.
        If you feel that it is creepy, then ask her if she wants to hang out with you and a couple of friends at a school event or the movies or something. That way the two of you have a chance to interact outside of twitter. c:
