Vodka straight? No! Not normal. I like the words "Fire water" to describe the taste of vodka straight up.
I don't think that is terribly normal.
HOWEVER
If you meant used as a mixer, then YES. Vodka has the least intrusive alcohol flavor of all the hard liquors and it is the best, as far as I am concerned for mixing.
I prefer it to rum to make quite a few drinks because the acoholic taste can be masked. Mixed just right, you can make a King Henry or sometimes called a Chi-chi (which is a Pina-Colada made with Vodka instead of Rum.) You get more of the pineapple and coconut flavors and less of the alcohol, which can make them a dangerous drink for some. There are others.
No, straight. I was mixing it with OJ the past few days but I ran outta OJ and I had to bite the bullet and drink it straight, thought it would be horrible but it was literally as easy as drinking water.
I like drinking hard stuff straight as well, but its more like fire water at first like viking said, but then after a couple, it's casual. I dunno how normal it is. I spose its normal if your used to it like any other beer. Like me and Patron, besides the first sip that reminds me of good stuff, afterwards it just goes down the hatchet "like shrimp fried rice"(Afroman), lol.

i love vodka :p used to bring it with me to school ina water bottle and drink it as such all the time. my friends would ask me if it were "special" water before asking for a sip lol

a good vodka doenst hardly have a taste at all, its just a pure distilled alcohol. it takes on the flavor of what you add to it.
if you can taste it, its not a good vodka!

If you have to ask if your drinking is a problem, your drinking is a problem. The volume you describe is late stage alcoholism. If you quit suddenly you may die of DT's. Seek treatment soon or plan on dying drunk.
when i was 16, i drank aguardente and whisky like water and guess what? i started to get sick.
Now i only drink things like beer and wine.
I drink absolute vodka straight with a couple of pieces of ice, all other vodkas just taste cheap on their own. I also drink jack daniels straight and for some reason I like bacardi straight aswell. Whenever I can get hold of a bottle of goldslager I drink that straight but i never see it on sale anywhere.
I used to spend 80-90% of my cash weekly,so you can say that I always drank vodka like water,Leeds vodka 80proof,was my final choice as an alcoholic,sometimes drank 2-3 pints day,minimal buzz-thats for $3pt or $10for a 1.75 liter bottle,been doing that for many yrs.Also, the 'proof' of the vodka is afactor as well..80,100,100+ so it al depends on what kind and what proof you're drinking.
OK and Smirnoff Ice is NOT vodka, it is only malt liquor, not vodka at all, so let's clear taht up now.

the first time i ever drank i drank half a bottle of vodka like it was water and got horribly sick. repeated this a couple times, now i cant even smell vodka or i puke.
I go through a couple gallons a week. Not my first rodeo. Just never really drank it straight, it is cheap crap (Barton's....a cheap bottom-of-the barrel brand), the only reason I buy it is because it's cheap, neutral, mixes well and has high alcohol content. And I can buy my mixers with my food stamps, so it's all good in the hood.

that is strange. i hardly drink, and if i drink vodka, i usually try to get a small bottle of svedka. that's some of the smoothest stuff i ever had!
well, I've never had bartons, but some of the other cheap stuff i had (congress, smirnoff vodka, popov) all taste like rubbing alcohol to me. that's why i usually stick to the good stuff. (also, i rarely drink hard alcohol, so i probably don't really have a taste for it.)

Couple gallons a week? either you are lying, bad at metric to standard conversions, or you have a new thing to worry about. What you should be worrying about is finding a good friend that has your blood type because they are going to need to give you half of their liver in less than a year lol
A couple gallons would be a max, an average week is normally more around just over one gallon. I buy the 1.75 litre every couple days, which is about a half-gallon, correct?
there is a little over three and a half liters in a gallon so yeah... in any matter a gallon of liquor is not good for you... not to mention the fact that at this point your body would probably go into withdrawal without alcohol but your liver cant be in good shape
