Is it a normal thing to end my sentences with full stops/periods?

I ask this because my friends always thought it is weird that I end my sentences when texting with a full stop. I only do this because it is a habit that I had since I was 8 years old.

And people often think it is abnormal.

But I of course ask if it is normal?

They find it weird that you use correct punctuation? I would think reading run-on sentences all the time would be exhausting.

I have never really understood the "trend" (or so it seems) of intentionally having poor grammar, myself. I've noticed a lot of people forego capitalization and punctuation "because it's easier", but that's just laziness if you ask me. But, I don't understand why laziness and apathy seem to be trends, either.

I always deliberately exclude the final period because I'm afraid of coming across as overly formal. Even if I've already put it in I'll go back and delete it. You putting it in purely out of habit, without thinking about it or worrying how that one little dot is gonna be interpeted, is clearly more normal

    • I'm very similar, when I'm intending to come across as friendly or whatever the last period of the paragraph is ignored, but when I'm being serious or super analytical I'll use it

I really have to be put in the mood to have a more relaxed dialect/use of grammar, so ignoring it is my way of saying I'm still chill even if I'm talking like I have 3 PhD's

I always text in complete sentences, with correct punctuation.

Honestly, for texting, it may be slightly off-putting these days but I don't think it's that weird-- or at least not something to complain about lmao

(For the benefit of any confused Americans, when the OP says 'full stop', he's referring to what you call a period.)

Punctuation exists because it makes clear communication easier. It sounds to me like your friend is either lazy, so stupid they don't know how to use punctuation, never has anything significant to say or just wants to mock you for something, no matter how trivial and nonsensical it might be.

You have around 2,000 years of history backing up your use of punctuation; your friend's opinion is endorsed only by modern idiots who believe that the speed and total volume of text communication is more important than clarity.
