Is it a crush if you overly idealize people?

If you overly idealize a person whos not in your family does that necessarily equal a crush? Since I do this sometimes and people think I am crushing but given the fact I dont really understand when I have crushes I dont really know if its sometimes true. As well as that I dated a lot but it was never people I was head over heals for I just kind of hooked up with them. Often times to pretend that I was normal. This has happened on a few occasions sometimes friends, sometimes family, sometimes teachers.

    I voted maybe; you don't have to know someone to have a crush, and it's easy to idealize an attractive person you don't know. By now I would say I love my crush though; we've known each other for a couple of years now. I don't need to create an idealized version of him, I love him unconditionally. Idk if he loves me the same way tbh, but he's very nice and appreciative. Sorry, I'm rambling lol

        Well I was kind of speaking generally. It takes time to really get to know a person, but it is possible to have a crush before you know them. Creating fantasy scenarios is idealizing, right?

    I think there is a difference between lust / infatuation and a crush. I think of a crush as having an idealistic view of someone (I basically never crush on anyone I know) but I do feel lust towards people I know.

    Not necessarily. I feel like you can really look up to that person but don't have to fall in love. I think it is just a "deep admiration" compared to a crush.

    Sometimes it can be. I've done this before with people over the years and some of them did turn out to be crushes.
