Is is normal to expect someone to do something they've done before?
My mom works at a private school and one of her parents asked her to babysit their kids. Since she ended up watching the kids alot we grew really close to the family. Well , they actually run and own a dental practice. One day they brought up the idea of me getting braces. (At no cost to us )So they did it and my teeth turned out amazing. I am forever grateful for them doing that because it would have cost us about 5,000 to get them done. This all took place from about 2004-2007 ( as far as the braces are concerned) So cut to 10 years later I crack my molar and I tell my mom. I suggest calling the individuals who hooked me up with my braces ( for free) and she gets mad at me and says " the braces were one thing but everything else cost" " I have a parent at my school who is a dentist and i'll have her look at it" says mom. The only thing wrong with that is the fact that she never made the call and my tooth is still cracked with this pit in it. That was 3 months ago.
Cut to April 30,2014. I end up calling the dental office of the family owned practice.(The ones who did my braces) I ask to speak directly to the Dr. and I let her know what's going on and what I need done. I specified on the phone that I would be more than happy to pay as soon as I get the funds. I also made sure to make reference to the fact that I really appreciated what they did for me years back. I made it clear that I was going into the military and really needed this done. (Also to insure the fact that money would be coming in)
I sneak in (didn't tell my mom) the following day and they get me in the chair and she's excited to see me and all that because it really has been years. THEN... We start talking about payment and what I could do and things like that. Now I specified on the phone that I did not have anything at the moment. I don't know why I thought that she would just fix it for free. She kept saying how easy it was to fix. She was nice but I was just like hmmmm can't she see that i'm in a bind?? When they did my braces that cost thousands of dollars they didn't ask for money so this filling that I need is only 175.00. I really didn't get why they couldn't just fix it and send me on my way. Let me be clear I have no problem paying it's just she would have to wait until after basic. She also said that payment is usually done within 3 months. I don't know how soon i'm going to basic training.
I guess I thought wrong .. should I just go with the other dentist that my mom knows from her job that said " whatever you need let me know" is it normal that I expected another favor from these people?
