Is is normal for parents not to say 'i love you'?

Neither of my parents have ever said they love me. I discussed it with them and my mom thought it strange that a mom would tell her daughter she loved her, or told her she looked nice, or gave her any compliments at all. I assume she loves me although I know she doesn't actually LIKE me because she says I'm boring. My dad's dead now but he didn't like children at all, not even his own. I'm very affectionate with my children and even my pets but I just wondered if you thought it would leave me scarred in any way.

None of my family says it. My dad said it to me the day I hopped on a plane to move across the country.. but that was the first time since I was like.. 4. My family is very unaffectionate to their own kind. Which is one reason why I don't fit in.

We don't say those dirty words, cause actions speak louder and those words are just corny.

I don't think saying it is that important. There are other ways of expressing love. If someone enjoys spending time with you and genuinely cares about your health and overall well-being, those are signs of deep affection to me.

My siblings and parents never say I love you to each, nor do I to them. It's just how we are. My parents families don't say it either. But we're all very close and always therefore each other. We know we love each other through our actions.

Mine have never told me. In fact none of my family ever have, apart from my grandma who told me once before she died. I miss her.
