Is 'iin' a good indicator of what's normal?

I've pondered, that regulars on is it normal are probably not that normal. If you're on a website about deciding if things are normal all the time, I'd imagine you're not that normal! I'm on here constantly and I wouldn't class myself as 'normal'.

Does anyone agree?

It's a measure of what a bunch of mainly liberal and minorly shut-in internet dorks believe is or should be acceptable in society.

While the internet sample populace does have some variety here (Senior Citizens, women with children, Europeans and North Americans, college grads, high school drop outs, 18 year old boys locked in their room masturbating etc.) Understand that the majority of opinions that you get here will be from people who have a very liberal and "open minded" (and I use this term loosely) attitude in regards to how one's lifestyle should or should not be lived.

Extremely liberal for the most part. They're ready to marry animals and inanimate objects next lol

Yet my piss fetish doesn't seem so popular here. Lost count of the ewws and thumb downs.

    • Good, and insightful summary. I was going to simply say...

      ...no.

IIN is a site dedicated to people who, typically, searched the internet to see if others fit their weird thoughts or actions. Views are going to typically reflect a bunch of people who wonder if others fit their weird thoughts or actions.

But even the most normal people you've ever known have probably thought things they did weren't the norm or at least weren't sure at some point. Besides it's fun to read some of this stuff.

        • Absolutely.

That's one of the great things about this site. I didn't mean to make it sound like we're all weirdos, though we most certainly wear the fact that we are like a badge ;D.

I'm just saying that that's the representative sample you're going to get...scientific method. You ask here, you're going to get a representative sample of people who searched the internet to see if they're weird.

...it's a community that only represents IIN users. Not the general population.

  • I don't know if I voted right, but, I think the populace on IIN doesn't really know what's normal and not, but they do give others, outsiders, a better sense of self-esteem.

So that's something. Which would you rather? Be normal? Or be okay with being you?

Just one question comes to mind: What the hell is "normal" anyway? Broadly speaking, society defines narrow-ish definitions of what we call "the norm", but that doesn't make being an outlier wrong. If everyone was (by this definition) "normal", we wouldn't have some of the most amazing individuals, art, entertainment or inventions that we have. Just think of some of the most prominent genius-level talents that have lived. One thing that often sets them apart (in addition to what they've given us) is that they don't play by the same rules as the average person does. Nikola Tesla, Einstein, Bach, Mozart, Robert Cray, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Churchill, are just some that come to mind.

I don't call myself normal, merely because there isn't really any such thing. But, when it comes to extreme cases, that's where this site is useful. The benefit comes from getting alternative view-points of a particular situation. No (wo)man is an island.

I like it here because I can say whatever I want. Often I just want to get a reaction so I say wild things which are often inappropriate but I am having fun here so what the Hell. It is normal to use this site for fun and relaxation. You can also meet people here too. Wonderful site!!!

No, I doubt the average person here is normal, so unless the question is really weird... I'm really weird myself

I think it's a place to find out if anyone's like-minded with you. Terrible place to find out what's 'normal' which is pretty impossible to define anyway. Even if you were to define normal as the average, that changes day-by-day anyway.

Surely there is no such thing as 'normal'. I came to this site because I wanted an answer/help regarding a specific question.

I am so glad I did. There is a great selection of commonsense individuals, eccentrics, weirdos, good eggs, fucking idiots.....

And I like to think I have made friends with two or three people on here, for which I am grateful.

Does any of this make me 'normal'? Dunno. Don't care.

Well everyone has a different definition of what's "normal." I think it can either mean common or socially acceptable.

I usually just scale and shape it to societys standards but i realize not everybody does this and people most likely choose based on individual experiences and how they were brought up, so take everything with a grain of cyanide.

    • Most on here just repeat whatever they think will make others like them.

I say something, honest as can be, and people think it's a troll. They can't get their heads around the fact that someone has opinions that aren't politically correct.

The point is IIN is NOT a good indicator of something being normal, however loose you want to define normal.
