A guy from out-of-town recently joined my classes and I kinda developed an immediate crush on him. I have 7/9 classes with him, but he won't talk to me in front of anyone. We only talk in our last class together, when there's just 4 total people.
He recently told me that I was unusually attractive, that I looked like I needed to be on tv or a magazine cover. We sit together in our last class together and talk about everything that happened throughout the day, but if someone of my level of popularity come nearby, he'll wander off.
I have an understanding that he's shy, especially since he's a recent move, but I'm gay, so I've never really had male friends -- is this normal behavior between guys, or is this something else? I'm considering mildly popular at my school, so is he trying to get in good with a bigger crowd, or is he just making friends?

    In my opinion, it seems he tries to fit in with everybody.
    It's like my old friend at my old school, she used to always talk with me when the popular girls weren't around, and when they did come she'd just wonder off with them.

    It may be similar to yours, although people also do that so they can gain popularity. Or, he likes your personality although he wants to be popular, so he pretends he doesn't know who you are.

    Honestly, it's a 50/50 chance that you have here, dude.
    That's what I fucken hate about humans.
