Could we end up with a split in humans where we no longer resemble eachother like the morlocks and eloi as prophesized by h.g.wells?
I sincerely believe that the human race is devolving, not evolving.
The more we ignore Darwin's "natural selection", the weaker the species becomes.
Soon all humans will eat 'Soylent Green', exist behind their computer screens 24/7 and IRL will be the most terrifying thing imaginable.
I can think of worse fates for the human race :P

If that were to happen I would want to invent a substance that causes my flesh to become toxic to other humans to consume, yet allows me to remain alive, able to be intimate and procreate.
Nope. We've been devolving for a long time. It doesn't help that our ignorance, bigotry, overall corruption, and societal duds (religion, poor-quality DNA being propagated, sexism, racism, etc) are slowing us down preventing us from progressing as a species.
It's quite a shame really. I would've loved a Futurama-eqsue future with flying cars and super-advanced human civilizations. Civilizations with no more of the current issues we have. :(

They're still winning bro. The gene pool has devolved to the point that people that are too dumb to use birth control are having most of the new babies. A dumber population with dumber people to teach them. The future belongs to dumb people that fuck. First, radical religion is adopted by the dumb people, and then Soylent Green feeds the masses.

Why would it happen any faster for us than other animals? Especially considering we tend to now adapt our environment to suit us, rather than adapt to our environment?
Through technological advancement, we might one day be able to tailor our own evolution, though, as well as the rapidity of it.
I also don't see why as a species we'd split into two, considering how much we mix with one another now. Some insurmountable geographical division or societal apartheid would have to happen over hundreds of thousands of years.
Lol we mix with eachother? Cross countries? Races? Yes. But intelligence-wise? I think not. There perhaps is a societal apartheid. Just look at the chawners...you heard of them? That to me seems to be what the other human species will look like and behave like. Im sure some scientists have come up with this theory already.

There was no mention of the word "faster" in my post only "fast" which with no comparison is a bit meaningless.

But by saying 'happening at a fast rate in humans', you must be comparing it to something non-human? What do you think is evolving at a slow rate? By what are you comparing it to?

I initially was going to write "faster." It is actually hard to read the question without reading it as "faster," but thats not intentional. Just looked online, this article says 100, 000 years. So i don't know if its fast, but scientist are thinking of it as a theory that could happen. I said "theory" and "could happen" so don't hold me to it.

I don't think that we are evolving. In the future, humans my get a chance to mate with extraterrestrials. I wouldn't call it evolution either but it would create hybrids (not like there haven't already been some created) and are genes would be changed. Maybe, new races would sprout up? Who knows?

But there is a theory that we are evolving right now - evolution is just a change it doesn't mean something getting better necessarily. The idea is that smart people don't have kids with dumb people usually. Just about every other difference or barrier can be crossed (maybe not illness). So the idea is in thousands of years you could end up with a split in the human species: the smart noble people and the dumb savages. It's not evolution in the sense of something happening for the better, but just a huge change taking place over a long time.
