Is dell normal??

I hear people on the web all the time talking about how dell sucks. why don't people like dell? Is it because they think dells are ugly? is it the customer service? or are the dell bashers just mac fans? I personally don't like apple computers, I prefer substance over style. Does dell have that substance? Is Dell Normal and worth the money?

  • I find dell laptops just don't last that long...and always seem to have an issue of overheating (heard some have caught fire). I've got a Samsung here, lasted 3 years of heavy use and the fan still works perfectly

  • I prefer the security that the Mac platform presently provides.

Dell almost always has some odd but useful deals. Ex. i bought my inspiron 1545 with pentium processor, 128mb graphics card, 4 gb ram, 320 gb hard drive, custom color, and microsoft office for 600$ (shipping included in the price) only because my dad works for a company that buys computers from dell. Its street value is almost 1000$.

Brands of computers dont make a huge difference. They all use the same parts. Be it AMD or Intel processors (which affects the speed of your computer the most) and Intel, ATI, or Nvidia graphics cards. The RAM and all those other parts are usually the same. The only thing brand usually has a major influence on is the case its all kept inside of and the quality of things like maybe the keyboard if its a laptop. When a computer starts freezing a lot it's usually because of a virus thats causing instability.

Also, Macs are better than Windows PCs, there are a lot fewer viruses because most of the viruses out there were designed to target a windows pc. Think of them as programs that run on windows but are incompatible with mac. Many people hate microsoft for whatever reasons so they make viruses and attack microsoft pcs. Vista is a good example of why windows is or can be bad... it has very high system requirements compared to any other OS out there. The new Windows 7 has less system requirements than vista.

Apple's Mac isn't better because of the brand itself, it's better because of the OS that's running on their computers. Usually computers slow down and have problems because you have gotten a virus or perhaps something your doing drains the systems resources.

When you buy a pc look at whats inside of it first, then size up what's on the outside. Just because a computer looks ugly doesn't mean it has crappy performance.

sorry for the super long comment... I was bored and had nothing better to do....

I've had a few Dells and never had any problems with the hardware.
They are easy to customize on their web site. They are ready to go out of the box. They are very quiet machines.
I put Linux on them when Windows gets too bloated to run on the old platform, and they seem to last forever.
I don't have any idea about their after-sale customer service since I've never used it. I would pull out my intestines with a dirty fork before I call someone on the phone to ask how to use my computer.
I don't trust the reviews in computer magazines. They are heavily influenced by advertisers.
I've had good experiences with HP, but so far have preferred Dells for personal purchases. I'll be looking at Apple for my next purchase because I've heard good things, but I'll be comparing features and prices -- not just brand names.
Oh, and Macs don't get viruses because they have such a small market share, they are not as attractive to vandals. There's nothing intrinsically safer about Mac, especially now that it's on the Intel chip.

I have a dell, im on it right now and it fucking sucks. It always freezes, it wont hold a charge and its sort of slow. It is not even that old either, and i paid a shitload for it. They are not worth the money in my opinion. Go for a Sony Vaio instead

My home PC is a dell, and I love it. I have had very few problems with it I am running Windows XP on it and it has been great. I ordered it with all the features I wanted right from the company so yes I like Dell. It has become my wifes computer now I don't even use it since I purchased my Gateway laptop computer.

I have had it for around 28 months now and have had very few problems with it. I have had a few of the keys fall off, but they are easy to put back on. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

The XPS Laptops from dell are all pretty to me. I love them all, esp the M1330/1530. The Studios are great too

Well not all people can build their own PCs so I think Dell approach is quite good.

I wished other brands did the same but that would involve them charging higher prices which customers these days are quite sensitive, something Dell realised earlier when they first started.

I'm not entirely willing to have Dell computers but I do like the idea of personalising a PC to your requirements.

I happen to work for a electronic company and come across customers who purchases the topline computer not realising that they are not going to fully utilise the processor power or the hard drive.

  • I dont like brand name comps they are expensive to upgrade and you dont have a choice what parts you want its just the brand youve got only and Dell comps are cheap pieces of crap alright for someones first comp but no good for serious net users

Hmm, substance over style you say? you must have not used an apple lately...hmm let me look through some of my findings. Aw here we go

"Apple: Best computer to run Windows Vista" PC world
"Apple: Best customer service on the market" CNET
"Apple: Your not going to get a virus with a Mac" Leo Laporte
"Apple: One of the only tech companies to not only do better than in 2007, but better than EVER in 2008 in terms of revenue!" Walt Mossberg, Bloomberg,

There's 4 different aspects of Apple that are all substance :)
