Not asking for a pro-guns or anti-guns debate.

I'm just curious about what it's like to live in a country where guns are everywhere.
So, ...what's it like?

Please read first: I was born in a third world country where guns/self protection are the norm. It felt normal to grow up around guns and understand what they were used for.

Moved. Grew up in a country that outlawed guns. So, where I am now you'd never expect someone to have a gun. You don't think of it.
They're nearly obsolete apart from the criminal underground.
But I know what it's like to have guns around and to feel like there's a threat. - From whatever.

My question is; is there a different mentality - in day-to-day life - in a place where a lot of people are armed. Have you gone to a place where nobody is armed - does it "feel" different?
What's the VIBE in the air?

    An armed society is a safe society. The vast majority of people are not evil pieces of shit and would never think of killing an innocent person. Sure, guns would be available to evil people, but if someone wants to kill badly enough, they will find a way, guns or not. Having a gun to defend yourself against this sort of evil person is safer than not having anything.

    In a country that has outlawed guns, only the outlaws have guns. How safe can you possibly feel in that society?

      Most outlaws wouldn't have guns either. Guns aren't as easy to make as you might think, it's not like the drug market where to grow weed all you have to do is water a plant and keep it hidden...

        Please tell that to all the unarmed British cops who've been murdered with a firearm in a country where they have been illegal for some time now.
        As far as making a gun, well that was just a stupid, childish statement. You want an illegal firearm? If you've got the money, I can get you one in any nation on this planet more easily than I can get antibiotics.
        As for criminals having guns in the US, I hate to shatter your dream, but the guns are already here in massive quantities. So if all the good citizens give up their firearms, but the bad guys don't, how many centuries do you think it will be before all the illegal guns are gone?
        Uh yeah by the way, hiding pot plants isn't all that easy, either. It can easily be spotted from the air using special equipment and it is frequently found through extra large utility usage in urban environments. And if you think you are going to get good pot thinking that to grow weed all you have to do is water a plant, you are going to end up with something about as much fun to smoke as Mexican shit weed.
        You can post all you want, but for your posts to make sense, you've got to put a bit of thought and research into the subject.

          Yeah, I guess you have a point. It'd be very hard to leech out all the criminal's hidden guns and it'd take forever.

    I'm in such a society. It's terrifying, trust me. I've been threatened with a gun once. Rednecks will not hesitate to misuse their guns to intimidate people. Most of the time it isn't just for self defense, but also because they feel insecure about their masculinity or want to make people fear them.
