Is a complete lack of support normal?? iin?

I was recently diagnosed with severe stress related depression. I flew all the way from London to New Zealand to discuss my condition with my family, and to talk about ways of helping me. They scarcely listened to a word i said, and kept rabbiting about what a great life i have and how i had no reason/no right to be anxious and stressed.

Un freakin believeable. What a complete waste of an airfare. If your own mother and brother won't listen and won't help then what is the point ?? I wish I had a proper family - someone that would at least try and be useful.

As an adult, we grow away from our families and make our own lives. Contact your friends who are more likely to understand your situation.

    Good luck.

don't count on anyone but yourself. it's not like you're alone in that situation.. it's just that you need to evolve on your own.

  • What did you expect your family to do? Look after you from now on?

I know how you feel. Like Kegstand said, if people haven't experienced a certain thing then they often will not know how to properly deal with it. I've had people to not be understanding of health problems. Instead of understanding and kindness i've often gotten misunderstandings, judgmental, cruel and insane reactions.

Its best not to talk to them and ignore them. It may seem harsh, but perhaps the only way they'll learn is if you keep your distance from them.

    Good Luck!

Ailments like these seem so ethereal to people that have never suffered from them. They don't understand how you can't just "feel happy". Don't blame them, they don't know any better.

That's awful. Forget them then. I hate when people assume that someone shouldnt feel a certain way because they think their life should dictate otherwise. Or point out what they think is good about your life, so how could you possibly have any issues. Bastards.
