Insecure friend and i want to help but how else can i?

My friend is a very insecure girl. She is beautiful, smart, and too kind. I don't understand why she can't see it. Shes insecure about her looks and talents. I've been regularly telling her things about herself that she should be proud of. But no matter what I do, she turns it back onto me and starts saying things shes jealous about me. I sincerely want to help her but shes implying so many negative things about her and not letting me get through. I've tried everything that I could but how else can I help her?

    I have some thoughts.

    There is no miracle pill to "cure" insecurity. There is no magic combination of words, so don't beat yourself up if you can't help her. It doesn't reflect badly on you, so don't let it drag you down too :)

    Sometimes people need to help themselves. The only thing you can do for them is tell them you'll be there for them when they need you. Offer them a crutch if they need it rather than trying to carry them yourself, sort of thing.

    Listening is often more useful than speaking. If she shows signs of wanting to talk to you about it, encourage her and listen as much as possible.

    Tiresome when someone you think is terrific, bad mouths themselves all the time, isn't it? It's like your opinion means absolutely nothing to them and your judgment is terrible.
    Unfortunately, I doubt that there is anything you can really do to help her. For whatever reason she seems to be on a downward spiral of self loathing, which only she can change. Sometimes it's just too painful to watch and you must distance yourself from it all, for a while. If this is a true friendship, it will survive a bit if distance, for a time, and perhaps that distance will force her to reassess her priorities. I wish you both luck.

    She needs to be proud of herself. Go get dressed and drag her to the mirror tell her to compliment herself. Then tell her to look past herself and see more.
