Insanely morbid: white poop

I work at a hospital as a nurse (I'm male) and one day I observed the most morbidly disgusting and deplorable sight ever.

A patient came in one day complaining of horrid bowel pain. He claimed it was the worst pain he's ever felt. As part of a testing procedure, I asked him to defecate in a bag for me, and lo and behold, out came WHITE POOP. I had to try to prevent myself from vomiting at the mere appearance of it. What caused it? A mystery even to me as even the doctor who took a look at it stated he'd never seen anything like it and couldn't tell what in the world it was.

Anyone have any ideas?

    You are a nurse and you dont know what causes poop to be brown.....Hint old red blood cells get broken down in the Liver and excreted as Bile via the Gale Bladder. He has Jaundice, and a problem with his Liver or Gale Bladder or the tubing between Liver-->Gale Bladder-->small intestine

    When the broken down red blood cells called Bilirubin are not present in the poop its white.

    I hope you are never my nurse...you need to go back to school.

    HONESTLY he probably drank white out. My niece eats markers sometimes and I SWEAR TO GOD craps in rainbow colors. it's hilarious and strange. Patient was probably just too ashamed to admit it.

    you're not a nurse. you're just a tech (thank god for you guys cuz you do all of shitty work for us) and you saw white poop in someone's bed pan and it freaked you out and you were too afraid to ask so you came here. it's okay. but seriously, I learned about what makes poop brown in middle school!

    I did a little research and it seems that it was probably blocked bile ducts in the liver.

    Ask a gastrointestinal doctor. There has to be one in your hospital.

    Ummm yeah, you are a nurse and you got sick from seeing white poop? AND no one could explain it?

    Obviously other people have answered your question on here, and all they did was probably google it. I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe that you didn't know any of this. White poop can be caused by many things, and IF you are a nurse and this makes you sick, you are in the wrong profession honey!
