Inn to ironically rate un-normal inn questions as normal?

I feel like that's something that frequently occurs on this site; we rate overtly weird things as normal, because they're so obviously not normal.

oh I've done this. if a question was obviously and mind-numbingly normal I end up voting not-normal.

The real problem is we do not have a shared understanding of what is meant by normal. Abnormal or simply atypical? Sometimes we rate things as normal simply because they do not hurt anyone.

Is it normal to consistently give thumbs up to quality trolls?

I think the problem lies in how we individually define normalcy. Let's use homosexuality as an example. If we define normal as, "that which most people do," then homosexuality is not normal. Yet, if we define normal as, "that which occurs naturally," then homosexuality is normal.

Normal is too vague of a word . . .

I don't know, I always have a hard time deciding. Because a lot of stuff isn't common, but it's also not harmful or totally bizarre.
