Inability to hear accents. iin?

First off, I have always had the inability to mimic people's accents. I'm from the US, but I can't even do variations of American accents either. I feel like there is more to it though.

I can never retain an accent in my memory. I can sometimes tell that someone is speaking with an accent. For example: a British one, with it being more different to me than a New York accent.

Right now though, not hearing anyone speak, I cannot imagine what these accents sound like. I have no idea how a British or Russian person would sound reading off this post. Yet strangely I can still identify the ones that are more extreme for me when I do hear them. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a hard time hearing other accents?

I cant differentiate accents worth shit. Theres a new woman at my work and I thought she had an Aussie accent, turns out shes English for fuck sakes. Then theres this other dude who I swore was an Aussie and hes from fuckin Newfoundland. Doesnt matter where theyre from I think everyones from Australia. Next foreigner i meet im just going to ignore them. Fuck them for not being Australian.

You probably have a neurological disorder. Go see a neurologist.

I think it's normal, I'm bad at identifying accents in English myself. I can detect very strong ones, but if the accent is light I barely notice. But maybe that is because I have an accent myself....haha

Should do the challenge. They have British online trying to sound American. They also have Americans trying to sound British.

As a non-native speaker I can imitate American, British & Indian accents.

For me personally, it's not normal. Im from Georgia, so i have a southern accent (well atleast thats what people tell me) i can imagine and hear in my mind at least half a dozen accents right now. But, maybe thats just me.
