In which of these foreign cities would you rather teach english?

I don't know how long I'll be gone, but I expect it to be at least awhile. I'm a single American male, and I'm looking to also go to a country where I can fall in love. It looks like I've been given a shortlist of a few cities. Which of these would be your first choice if you were me?

Shanghai 0
Bangkok 4
Istanbul 0
St. Petersburg 1
Hanoi 0
Kuala Lampur 1
Jakarta 0
Taipei 2
Seoul 3
Tokyo 7
Ho Chi Minh City 0
Moscow 3
Jeddah 1
Hong Kong 1
Riyadh 0
Beijing 0
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

We're getting more specific because I was given a shortlist.

That's what I've heard. It's definitely high on my list for sure.

I picked Tokyo just for the cleanliness of the people and low crime rate.

That's cool! The one thing that worries me about Tokyo is it's so damn crowded there.

            Yeah, it sure is!

I've also heard that Thailand has some really lovely people there. That would be my second choice.

Why did you choose so many of the most populous, polluted cities on the planet? Though I would love to visit many of those cities, I would die before I would move there and live in those nut houses.

    • Because that's what was available. There isn't a high demand for English speakers in small towns when 90% of all the economic activity is in urban areas.

        Point taken. Shame, though.

That's just the way that it is.

It's called Hobson's choice. These are the cities I was given because that's where I'm needed. I would've gone to Rio de Janeiro if I had it my way, but there's not as high a demand for English speakers there; especially for people that don't have at least a year or two worth of experience.

OK, I didn't understand that this was a real choice someone (you) had to make professionally. I might choose Istanbul as it's centrally located to so many interesting places, for when I wasn't working. I think even Paris would only be a day away by train? Just one question; must you learn the local language before you go there and teach? If so, that might greatly affect my choice as Vietnamese or Korean would be much less useful than Chinese or Farsi in your future, don't you think?

Bangkok but watch out if you're single as i had a few crazy nights with this chick and was surprised to find out she may have not been all as she seemed..

I suppose the bulging crotch, large hands, adams apple and facial stubble should have been a dead giveaway...

Maybe her name "Raoul" should have flagged up a red light ...

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I will do that. I know there's a lot of transsexuals in Bangkok which is why I'll be sure to ask a lot of questions and look for warning signs. I know you can get a 5-star meal in Bangkok and damn good top-of-the-line cosmetic surgery both for next to nothing compared to what it costs here in America.

Good idea just let them know in "Our country" it's customary for us to greet others by grabbing their crotches as eskimoes rub noses, the west shake hands, the middle east kiss both cheeks etc..

Be safe and if in doubt run the other way screaming

No problem buddy. It's not just a place filled with marauding she males and Thailand has beautiful friendly people, great food and fantastic scenery.

Have a great time and good luck with your career.

Given your options, I'd probably choose Asia.
