Immoral or is it normal?

So, I've been raised in a strictly religious home. I like to go partying, drinking, smoking, and have sex with friends. My parents know I don't give a shit about my church (LDS/Mormon), but they don't really know the full extent of my "bad-habits." At school, it seems like 80% of the kids smoke weed. And probably the same amount like to go get wasted and literally fuck around. My parents, being as religious as they are, always comment on how immoral the up-and-coming generations are.

I was just thinking about morals. When I think of morals, I always thought of murders, crimes, etc. To me, getting drunk, getting high, or having sex with friends isn't really any sort of moral dilemma. Maybe just not-so-good habits. Yet, my parents call people "Amoral", when they do the same stuff I do. Or even not even as bad as me. Lol. Am I amoral? It seems kinda sad when I think about it, rofl. Are these types of activites normal or immoral? Even if they are normal, they aren't purposely doing harm to another human being. To me, that's more of what morals are about..

I've had this on my mind for the past while, felt like ranting. Thanks, let me know what you guys think! And sorry if the question isn't very clear.

Yup. I've got a 4.31 GPA, and I've already taken a large majority of college classes in high school. I consider myself fairly successful, with a very promising career lined up. Give it a few more years, and you'll have "this new generation" of kids in your workplace! It's the kids who aren't smart and don't take precautions that I think you should worry about. They ruin the fun stuff for us all.

Most religions usually look down upon hedonism. And you can't really blame them. Your parents are looking out for your best interest. Look at the new generations that are coming out, kids are being raised on horrible role models and weed is easily accessible. I don't want to say that you should give up your hedonistic lifestyle, but I do want to say that you should be cautious about the consequences that could come from engaging in such activities.

Maybe getting drunk underage will mess up your mind, doing it often and hard will mess up your liver, tobacco is very bad for you, 420 similarly unless it's vaporized, condoms aren't 100%, you can get your heart broken by falling in love with your casual sex, non-legal weed could potentially support someone being murdered by en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necklacing in Mexico or Colombia or something, and mass beheadings, weed makes you dumber and lazy and apathetic I'd used to be okay with going to Amsterdam for that till I found out about it, maybe one day someone'll make a pinhole in your condom to try to cause pregnancy or get child support from you, or put hidden camera porn of you two on the internet. Or you could find a serial killer or crazy that cuts off your penis or breasts, they have those.

Be moderate... Alcohol is dangerous. Weed can be psychologically addicting (like the normal pleasurable things). I would say don't drink, but you still will. Just be careful! Don't drive intoxicated, don't do drugs harder than weed, and ALWAYS wear a condom.

Yeah, if I'm driving, I never drink over the legal limit (even though it's still illegal for me to drink in the first place, lol. I just like to set it as a standard.) And as for condoms, I use as many forms of contraception as I can stand. But yeah, I'm not an idiot. I just like having fun. Basically my biggest threat is law enforcement imo, but we also take precautions with that. Oh, and happy 420, lol.

You are a 100% normal teenager. This exemplifies what is wrong with religious belief systems and political attitudes. The former only close their eyes to these behaviours and preach about the morality, in the vain hope it will go away (which it won't). The latter, politicians, try to legislate it out of existence (which it won't).
The important thing is to keep good Ethics, which you have shown. Also very important is to understand which substances can cause you real harm, and to avoid them. In my generation, many of us "got wasted", but you eventually learn to moderate. Ask yourself, do you really enjoy it when you are puking drunk or so high that you feel you have lost control?

  • I'd say this stuff is normal. It pretty much always has been.

Morals just depend on where your values are. If you're Mormon, you have semi-Christian values, so this stuff would be immoral. But, if you don't have any strong ties to religion, this stuff is normal. It all depends on the individual, I think.
Then again, I'm just trying to sound smart. :D
