Is it normal you mistake an insect(parasite) clinging to your back as a scab?

I sometimes get acne on my back which is really annoying. However one of them was really big and on the back of my neck. It was the size of dime. I figured it was just more acne but it was hurting for awhile and very irritating. I finally managed to pull off the end of it. Which I figured was the tip of the zit. However when I pulled it off it felt like I pulled something bigger and I felt blood running down my neck. Is it possible I had a tick of something on me without realizing it and just yanked it off? Since that point the lump has become smaller and finally went away.

If its healed up i would imagine its nothing to worry about, but if it starts to hurt or itch, or if it starts to bleed, go see a doctor.

  • Did you look at what you pulled off? It would have been obvious if it was a bug.

I wouldn't worry, it was probably just a larger-than- usual acne scab of a couple of smaller scabs close together.
I doubt that it was a parasite!
The fact that it has healed nicely suggests that it was nothing sinister!

Ticks can give you Lyme Disease. If the tick is improperly removed the head can become dislodged into the body and continue to cause dangerous health effects.

      • If it was a tick, there's a chance you could have contracted Lyme disease. The fact that it healed up is irrelevant. It could have been an acne cyst, but you don't know for certain.

Are you sure it was a tick and not a leech.

    Stranger things have happened.

My grandmother got one of those in her leg. She was quite proud. Odd old bat, she is.

If it were a tick, it would have probably been moving.

    • Once bloated with blood, a tick's legs can't reach the ground to walk. They actually look a bit like a small pebble.

Did you examine the scab for little legs?

    • Actually no that is why I am wondering. I just sort of dropped it. I didn't mean to drop it.
