Is it normal wrong to lie to get social security?

Is it wrong to get social Security? I have not been able to find a job and I dont make a lot for college. Everyone keeps saying I should apply for social security but I dont have a mental disorder. Is it wrong to make one up to get services? I also dont want to have to be labeled as a mental disorder for the rest of my life when I was cleared before. I dont qualify for anything since I am not low income since a lot of things are based on parents income. Even though I should be low income.

Of course, it's wrong! Hardworking People's taxes will go into funding your sham and it's illegal.

In this computer age, you WILL get caught. Maybe not for some time, but eventually you WILL get caught.
The US government does not fuck around with this sort of fraud and not only will you go to prison, you will be required to pay back every single cent, plus a stiff penalty. They have the power to garnish your wages, so it's not like they will just sit back and let you not pay. If you think you've got it tough now, just imaging how you and your family will survive with Uncle Sam taking 30% of your future wages for 10 years or so.
Knowing this, you might wish to reconsider this course of action.

    • This was not the course of action I wanted to take. I being strongly pressured by family to do this. They dont want me on the street, they cant afford to help me financially, and they really want me to sign up. I dont qualify though. So I would have to make something up to get benefits. They are now treating me like shit about it.

I cant find a job but I am not disabled. I might be able to use my glasses as a legitimate disability but they are fixed with glasses. I looked it up before and it said that if you vision is repaired to 20/20 with glasses its not a real disability(or not one you can get money for).

I am being punished for not lying. I dont know what to do. I dont know how to get them off my back.

Try a job agency or cleaning/ moving things/ cutting grass for friends. Any job is respectable. Tell your family " I'm better than a bum".
I know a few people whose parents made their kids act disabled to get SSI. In the long run, it will only hurt you because you will be labelled as mental or retarded when you do want a real job.
I can't get decent life insurgence because of being on suicide watch years ago.
        Good luck.

        • I did tell them that is why I did not want to do it but they said they help you get a job and pay all of your schooling. So I should sign up for it. No one can pay my schooling and I dont make enough and the schools wont give me more money.

        • I already tried that everything requires you have a mental disorder.

Go to social services and see what programs are available. Now that the Republicans are back in power, these programs will be shrinking again, so do it soon. But as I said, if you commit fraud against the federal government, you will get caught.

Eh, I'd say good luck. It's very difficult for people who have actual debilitating mental disorders to get Social Security. Years of documentation detailing failure to adapt at work, at school, at home, diagnoses from multiple specialists who have good relations with health and human services... It's a hell of an endeavor to undertake and I wouldn't do it myself.

I had about 5 years where I had real mental problems and tried to get temporary help but got turned down.

You can get into legal trouble for doing that. I wouldn't consider this an ab/normal question, but more ethical. I do think it is wrong.

It's not the right thing to do. Just because a lot of people abuse the system doesn't make it right. Even if you do have a disability it's hard to get it. I went through several years of extreme anxiety( all diagnosed by MDs) but wasn't able to get any help.

  • I dont recommend it, but I can actually understand why someone would do is with the way the economy is.
In a way it is irritating that someone would fake disability, because it makes it harder for people with actual disabilities to receive benefits, but contrary to popular belief, this rarely happens and even most people with disabilities are not approved.
I get social security myself, and it's not something I am proud of, nor do I tell anyone in real life.
Personally it took me several years to get and I have a lifelong history of medical records of several health problems including mental illness, developmental disability, joint problems and sleep disorders, and it took me about 6 years to get approved.
If you did happen to get it, you would likely be eventually caught and imprisoned.
Lots of people complain about people faking disability for money, but it is extremely rare. Probably one in 100 or less.
I recommend finding self employed ways of making money such as mowing lawns and shoveling snow. Dont be ashamed to knock on doors.

It's not gonna work. You have to have paperwork to prove your disability, unless it's very obvious. I've been trying to get it for a long time now (I have depression and mild autism). Even with paperwork it's been hard.

  • I was always led to believe that the U.S. government is extremely fast & loose with the benefits system. At least if you're anything other than a White male, it may not be too difficult.

      Not necessarily.

Am I missing something here? Is it true that in the US you can't get any benefits at all unless you can prove severe mental or physical disability and even then it's very hard to succeed and can take years?

Is there no such thing as unemployment benefits? If so, how do people survive without committimg crimes just to eat and go on living? Is this the explanation for your country's rocketing crime rate?

In the richest and most powerful country in the world?

Someone, please tell me this isn't so

      It isn't so.

This post is about that fact that it's really hard to fake a disability to get benefits. People try it, but often get caught and the penalties are severe.

For honest folks, the U.S. provides unemployment benefits for anyone who involuntarily loses their job. Those benefits are temporary and the person has to periodically prove they are trying to find work. There are also disability benefits for anyone who can prove their disability is such that they cannot work in a field similar to their training/skills. Those benefits are either temporary, if the person needs time to recover or learn a new trade, or permanent if their disability is severe and will keep them from ever working again.

There are also loads of social programs for low-income folks like, welfare pay, food stamps (like a pre-paid credit card to buy food), low-income housing, food kitchens, shelters, etc., etc. etc. Lots of people receiving welfare checks and social services need and deserve them. And lots of people, like this OP, try to "game" the system to undeservably live off the tax payers.

    • Yeah pretty much and unemployment only if you were unemployed and lost your job. Its very hard to get benefits if your not with child, mentally ill, low income.

So if you've never had a job and can't find one, how do you support yourself? It sounds hideous to me, but then I guess you are the country where lots of people think making good quality medical treatment available to everyone is a communist plot. Do both your big parties have the same policies on government benefits?

Our present government in Australia is pretty bad and the other party is only marginally better, but at least we have some sort of a minimum safety net for pretty much anyone who needs it and in the case of unemployment you have to prove you're looking for work or doing a training course.

I don't understand how any government in a rich country like the USA could possibly justify such a meanspirited welfare system

        • Nothing you live with family, you become homeless, or you hopefully can find a job on your own, if you have friends who have stuff together you can live with them. Most of the friends I have dont really have anything going though.

Also no liberals want to tax the hell out of everything and help only the very poor or illegal immigrants which often hurts middle class and does not effect the rich. The republicans want little or no tax to things like business to encourage small businesses to start up which creates jobs. Then we have the green team which only cares about the welfare of the planet(Which yes its important) but they often neglect to realize some of these businesses and activity's would create jobs.

Now of course we cant have it so bad that we are creating sink holes(which some places did and had to shut down) but we cant completely stop production of company's we need workers.

Also generally most things that can qualify you as low income go off mom and dads pay, which totally sucks.

That all sounds very bleak and similar to this country's welfare policies only taken much further in the wrong direction.

Your greens must be different to all other greens in the world! To my knowledge, including Australia, the Greens are concerned about many other social issues other than the environment and certainly in favour of sustainable industry, which is surely the only way forward for both employment and the planet?

Unsustainable industry may create jobs, but what sort of jobs and at what cost to both the environment and future generations? I guess the hard thing is working out the balance, wouldn't you agree?

            • Like I said yes its true we need to think about the environment. Some businesses go so far that is destroys all surrounding environment and the company falls apart since the structure it was sitting on is destroyed. Like when a company fell apart since it ended up creating sink holes. Clearly that is not good for business.

However we cant deny all or any business to the point we are protecting the wilderness and not allowing jobs to be created what so ever. So you can see it from both sides but instead of balancing generally we get all or nothing kind of stance. The green stance being nothing. They at one point said that we cant drill since we risk an oil spill. However we do need oil. So you really can see the issue on both sides.

You need jobs but you cant have company's to the point of making the land unsafe. Its really tricky.

If you call committing a felony to steal our tax payer's hard earned money wrong, then yes, deadbeat.
