Is it normal would you be willing to sacrifice your life to save humanity

An Alien race has come to the Earth and proven that if certain people remain alive they will be directly responsible for ending humanity through their actions or the actions of their offspring, words or other.

YOU have been identified as one of those people. They have taken you into the future and shown you the proof and results. Are YOU willing to sacrifice your life for humanity?

Time travel (other than a few seconds into the future) is not possible even for Aliens.

    • How do you know?

Most everything we take for granted would be thought of as impossible just 100 years ago.

        The Second Law of Thermodynamics.

        • WRONG

The Second Law of Thermodynamics is about the quality of energy. It states that as energy is transferred or transformed, more and more of it is wasted. The Second Law also states that there is a natural tendency of any isolated system to degenerate into a more disordered state.

Thermo - has to do with Energy, not time. If you are trying to infer or twist Thermodynamics to fit scenarios to do with time you will be wrong every time.

FYI, Wiki and the Internet is not a substitute for a real education.

As time does on, any isolated system will degenerate into a more disordered state. If you were to go backward in time the entire system would have to revert to its previously ordered state.

Soapy_Testicles comment says the same thing as the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Here is how Soapy just explained it, "Tracing events back to the "source" is basically all knowing though, if you really think about it. Time travel is something that is basically impossible, at least traveling to the past. You have to reset the entire visible universe to what it was at that time, and than find a way to travel to it."

            Think about it.

Nope, I wouldn't be willing to do that.

No i wouldn't because humanity wouldstill end up destroying itself just like it is today.

What if your sudden absence, set off a different coincidental chain of events that caused the unintended destruction of humanity by a different means? And, how could these astronomically complex scenarios be run forward in time to assure that your destruction was the least invasive to obtain the desired outcome?

For example, suppose Adolph Hitler had his voice maimed in a bar fight making him unable to win the German Federal Elections of 1933. There would still be massive public outrage in Germany about uneven distribution of wealth and opportunity. This public energy could still coalesce in nefarious ways.

Conscious decisions don't work like that.

Of course, time is stringily dingily, per mr hawking, like tangled noodles, and any benign decision could set of an inevitable course of events (if I had home back to the house to retrieve my phone or ceased to speed or missed the green light, I could have avoided the accident...if I had gotten preggers and had a child who started crying before I left the house and I paused for 30 secs, etc, etc)

Possibilities are infinite. Decisions can't be made based on infinite possibilities. Infinity defies concision. You can only make decisions based on the facts presented, and if the facts described were presented to me, I would chose death.

I'm lucky enough to count on two hands people that love me, and I would give anything and everything for every single one of them.

Well, of course you are absolutely commited to your family and friends. But, the OP has framed the problem to ignore the most pervasive factor of all - which is randomness. Where there is randomness there is the "butterfly effect". This says that catalysts create chains of events that die out unless there is pent-up energy that needs to be released. And, looking at these patterns is what futurists use to make good predictions.

In other words, the OP's question is so absurdly hypothetical that it is ridiculous.

Of course it's hypothetical, everything is- even the science that you do religiously adhere to. Constants in all of your equations are hypothetical and dependent on a given set of circumstances- gravity, the speed of light.

Of course those things wouldn't be constant in some weird alternate universe, but I'm basing my decision based on the assumption that the facts given are true, just as you base your logic on the assumption that constants exist to begin with.

Countess dearie, before you throw the quantification-of-everything in the trash, let's be mindful of VARIANCE. Some things occur in tight distributions, while others vary all over the damn map.

Wise women of vision on Wall Street have few things in common. One of them is Statistics.

No way every one knows that if they come here illegally they are criminals and I will not negotiate with terrorists.

If an alien race, like what you describe, actually did come to Earth.

Well they would basically be gods, and we would be at their mercy as to whatever they decided our fate to be.

        • Basically these Aliens could give a rats ass about humanity personally because whether mankind exists or not does not effect them.

However they just went out of their way to help a race of idiots survive to at least get to the point where they don't eat their own buggers.

They are not all knowing, all powerful etc. they just have the ability to time travel and trace events back to the source.

A race of sentient beings that could do that probably wouldn't waste much time on us. The time they would waste on us would probably be to actually waste us lol.

Just say the ability to undo reality is unrealistic as a sky fairy.

Only if the radicals that keep attacking people and causing wars, etc. simply due to religion or that they simply don't like the differences they see in others, disappear with me so that needless killings, wars, fights, etc. end.

    • Of the people or groups you mentioned contribute to the end of humanity then yes. If humanity survives even though they are doing bad things of things you don't like they won't be eliminated.
