Is it normal weed is illegal while cigarettes are not

I live in Australia and we constantly get ads about the "war on drugs" and how bad taking drugs is and ads saying the police cares for us ect. Now don't get me wrong, I'm against drugs such as heroin, ice, etc.

Marijuana has proven benefits however, it helps schizophrinic people as well as people with anxiety and generally relaxes you depending on the type.

Cigarettes however are basically just different chemicals and poison mixed together to kill you slowly. Rat poison, tar, etc. are commonly put in cigarettes.

Now what I don't get is that when the police claim marijuana is terrible and damaging, they allow people to smoke rat poison? If the government and police really cared, they'd ban cigarettes and alcohol, because by their logic both of those things are worse then weed.

You may argue that legalizing weed will lead to people getting addicted to it or smoking it twenty times a day. Guess what? People are addicted to alcohol and cigarettes, my mother has been smoking for all her life and smokes around a pack a day. I don't see the government making cigarettes illegal because of it.

I'm also pretty bitter about the fucked up system in Australia. You're smoking/selling weed? Disgusting criminal, stay in jail for five years. Oh? You murdered someone? That's alright, just make sure not to do it again :)

That is literally the Australian fucking system, people can walk free after killing someone but if you're caught with weed it's the end of the fucking world.

If someone wants to smoke weed 50 times a day, that's their choice. The same if someone wants to smoke cigarettes 50 times a day or get drunk everyday, because it's exactly the same.

    I personally think weed should be legal everywhere. I mean, it's stupid to me to have any drug illegal. If people want to do them, that should be their choice...no matter how dumb it might turn out to be.

      Agreed, the only reason most drugs are banned is because people are making money off them while the government wants in on that money. If the government can't have it, no one can and you'll be labled a criminal.

        Actually the reason is more because they are extremely dangerous and most of them cause people to do crazy things that can be illegal. Also, they tries to outlaw cigarettes and alcohol in America in the 1920s it basically started a revolt! And it still did not stop the use of alcohol.

      Especially since people will buy and use any drug they want to anyway. The only thing making illegal does is burden the tax payers for court costs and jail time.

    It's the same here in the states. Guys that rape people get off with a slap in the wrist. We're talking 18 months in jail, meanwhile there's a pot dealer that got caught with 2 ounces doing 20 years in the federal pen. Yeah it's fucked up. Glad to know is not just the states. You can thank the Nixon administration for the war on drugs crap. Bullshit. Public enemy number one my ass.

    its because people get goofy and stupid on weed and we'd have alot more accidents and fights breaking out everywhere because almost every single person would be high as shit lmao

      And? People do that on alcohol and cigarettes, why should one thing be banned that does the exact same affect on something else that is not banned?

      Fights breaking out? The fuck? Most people are chilled the fuck out when taking weed, it's suppose to make you relaxed so I highly doubt any fights will break out. I think you're mixing up alcohol and weed lmao
