Is it normal we should stop animal trophy hunting?

Every year heartless hunters from the west go to Africa to kill Innocent endangered animals (like elephants, rhino, hippo, giraffes, zebras, etc) just for the fun of it. It could have been justified if it was for food, but its not, its human addiction to violence. Some advocates try to justify this that hunting allows to help save the animal population. This is a most ignorant and manipulated claim and is groundless with no statistical justification. Instead statistics shows that the world's elephant population declined by 97% from 1900 to 2000 due to the hunting. Most elephants were hunted just for their tusks sold into the market, and its a shame on us that our greed to prize such has led to such a loss of life, while others were done for human settlements to areas that belonged to them. Do these poor animals who never harm us not have the right to live like us? Does it make them feel brave and doing something glorious, shooting these unsuspecting animals from the behind, if they want to be all so macho why not engage in a one on one combat with a gorilla and then demonstrate their bravery, but they woulnt because they know that would have their limbs torn up, so they kill them with guns like cowards even though the gorilla would never harm a human unless the humans attack first. How would we feel if they started to use guns someday and came hunting us killing our elders and our children? The human population is 8 billion, no other mammals have such a high population over a billion (thnaks to human induced violence, killings, settlements, etc over the last millennium) other that cattle, but even they have it at 1.5 billion, humans are almost 8 times higher.

We make laws to protect criminals, mass murderers, serial killers and so many other evil humans who deserve the capital punishment despite their evils and harms that they have done to us, so why not those poor innocent animals that never harm us if we just leave them alone. Just because they are not humans doesnt mean they dont have the right to live, the right to raise their families, the ability to feel pain. Humans have caused more wars, violence and destruction in the world than any other beings and yet we claim to be the most civilized and rational beings in the world, and our blood thrusts do not stop, we have reduced warfare on our own kind in recent years, the UN was mostly established for human rights, yet our blood thirst continues with our fellow beings and there is no such global body to protect animal rights, only few minor animal rights activist groups whose voices are rarely heard. We talk of rights for furry, but when it comes to the actual animal, our attitude is "meh". If any population needs to be reduced, its the ever growing human population and we should hunt our own kind than those innocent endangered animals!!!!

    • I agree, I really wish one day those poor animals who never harmed us would learn to use guns and start shooting those hunters and poachers down, but even if they did they woulnt, because such cruelty only exist in the savage human nature...

When controlled trophy hunting is actually beneficial. Locals sell the rights to hunt certain animals, they take guides out to show the one to shoot usually a sick or aggressive member of the species.
The money made from this is then used to hire workers to protect the animal from illegal poaching.

This enables them to regulate the population, keep poachers out, and provide a source of income for the impoverished areas.

    • Facts and statistics proves you and those advocates for hunting wrong in every way. I know what I am writing is long, but please take the time to read everything. I dont intend to be rude to you anyway, but I cant control my emotions on this matter:

Guns were discoverd in the 1400s, but it wasnt until the 1800s when trophy hunting became popular. Since then hunters and their paid advocates use the excuse when controlled trophy hunting is beneficial and protects animals from their own kind. THIS IS TOTALLY GROUNDLESS< STATISTICS PROVES IT WRONG IN EVERY WAY. Aggressive members of the species wont bother to kill nearly 2 of their own kind, while one single human would hunter would shoot 200 in their life time. Non of the animals needed protection if we left them alone in the first place, also this blaspheme claim to glorify this heinous act has been proven to be bogus, every scientists and researchers agree with it. it is with this claim to protect elephants from themselves trophy hunters started to mercilessly kill them, the result is 97% decline in the population of elephants in just a century between 1900-2000, thy made up such manipulated illegal lies to steal their organs and tusks and sell them and make fortune for themselves. RoseIsbella rightly pointed out that recently (2018) the last male white Rhino died, another specie that has become just extinct for human greed, as in history we have killed their kind for horns (there is a famous pic of Teddy Roosevalt standing on top of a poor defenseless Rhino which he just shot dead, I used to admire him once, but after learning his hunting passion I despise him and he is very responsible for popularizing the stupidity in the US and trophy hunters would start travelling to Africa to kill all those innocent animals). This hideous claim (kill tehm to protect them) does not say anything about the total extermination of dodo birds which were very common once, it does not explain why so many species which were very common once, min ding their own businesses, never bothering us have now become endangered. If we should control any population, it is our own ever growing population of 8 billion, no other animal population other than cattle have a population over a billion, and even cattle have it at 1.5 billion, ours is nearly 8 times higher. Vast majority of once common species like gorillas, lions, tigers, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, etc have become endangered today because idiots believed in the bogus baseless claim that hunting is done to protect them from themselves. Its like saying every human with Hepatitis, AIDS, Small Pox, etc should have been killed to protect other humans from getting those contagious diseases, but no that would be considered a crime, instead we found medication for them to eradicate one of the deadliest epidemic in history small pox, to cure hepatitis, and to manage hiv from progressing to aids. We speak of abolishing death penalty even for mass murderers and serial killer humans and advocate for life term jail. So why coulndt they find alternative methods to protect the animals from aggressive members of their own (and no animal other than humans have ever been so dangerous to their own kind, history, scientific research and all supports my claim, a elephant has never been heard of killing 5 other elephants, while a human mass murderer terrorist doesnt hesitate to shoot down 50 people, and we still protect them saying they have a right to live and change, no capital punishment). The reason is this was a bogus cover up to protect hunters and poachers from killing innocent animals who never harmed them, sell their organs in ivory trade, make wealth, give a share of profits to keep activists quite and advocates to speak of all the good jobs the hunters and poachers are doing conserving the animals, while in reality these animals have slowly either become extinct or endangered. The fact that trophy hunting has been helpful in anyway is BS! The only population that needs to be controlled in reality is that of the ever growing human population, and maybe we should deal with sick/aggressive members of our own human kind first!!!

        So much to address.
        1. - I appreciate the passion you have towards this and the research you appear to have done.
2.- Your dismissing of the need to protect the animals is not incorrect, assuming we did indeed leave them alone they wouldn't need protection, however this thought is flawed because we won't, it just won't happen. Changing the laws won't fix this poaching is already illegal and it still happens, so because of this a certain degree of protection is necessary. Also to this other than poachers, people encroach on the animals territory for farm land, or other reasons, creating an income source from the animals that benefits the community gives them a reason to leave their territory alone.
3.- Teddy Roosevelt as you mentioned was an interesting character, he bagged 3,000 animals in africa but he also established the national parks in america to protect our wildlife so... good and bad, judge him for both actions not just one.
4.- As far as our population coming under control, there's evidence that that's already happening, every first world country except the USA has a negative birth rate. And as other countries develop their birthrate will likely decrease too. Some studies already claim that the human population will never reach 12 billion. but only time will tell for sure.
These are just my oppinions anyways

        • Interesting points, i appreciate you for taking your time to fully go through what I said, and I agree with your 1,3,4. In 4, yes China and India alone makes almost 50% of the world populationj and their population continues to grow, but in Europe and the americas it is declining. But no 2, yes its too late now, whats done is done and the animals have already become endangered or extinct and this is all due to human interference. If only this was a highly punishable offence and people raised concerned of animal cruelty in the early years of the 20th century. Not only they hunted them, made profits by selling their body parts (like elephant tusks), but they drove them away from their own homes to establish their territories there. This has lead to loss of life of so many innocent animals. But it is a good thing people today are speaking up against animal cruelty and are finally trying to protect animals. Regardless the kill to protect theory is illogical, and has proven bogus, but the damage done is irreversible as I gave the article on how the elephant population has reduced by 97% in the last century while it was justified with that lie, but the real purpose was to sell their tusks all along (and if such logic had validity, during disease epidemics like the highly contagious small pox and Spanish flu, we would have killed infected people gunning them down before they infected others, but that would have been considered a savage and immoral act, same case to animals). Whats done cannot be undone, but now in the 21st century when we realize the cruelty and the filthy business associated with trophy hunting we must be more vigilant, we must enforce extremely harsh punishment on hunters and poachers, we must discourage tourists from traveling to Africa to kill innocent animals teaching them moral values, we must ban all ivory trade markets, those who are caught buying animal body parts should be jailed as the market is mostly demand driven. Changing law never does anything, strictly enforcing them does. How would people feel when they have their elders and children gun downed by mass murderers, yet they dont care if its innocent animals like bears, deer, zebras, rhinos, hippos, etc who never harm people unless for self defense and all are living beings with their own family (or group). Strong vigilance and harsh punishments can finally bring this despicable act to an end. We may never be able to bring back the lives of the millions of innocent animals that died in the hands of hunters and poachers, but it is time to stop this despicable act for good and to stop further loss of innocent animal lives due to human cause and greed. Thank you for your well thought reply...

I see no problem if you are hunting for food or if you go elsewhere hunt for food for others but once you are doing it for just a trophy then it's a problem if you ask me, it's a messed up practice

Humanity has been abusing & exploiting animals for millenia, not a great deal has changed.

I used to think peta did a fair job at animal rights issues but after the Naruto monkey selfie copyright debacle they did their cause more harm than good.

As for the big men & women that go trophy hunting I hope they are proud of themselves. Do they not realise how fucking stupid they look stood or sat next to a dead animal complete with rifle in hand. It is strange however that no one else seems to share their enthusiasm & seems to villify & detest them.

I agree this madness has to stop, we must protect our fellow beings. Markets needs to be monitored for "Ivory trade" which includes the sell of the elephant tusks you mentioned including tusks of hippopotamus, walrus, etc who are brutally killed for it just to allow these heartless hunters make some profit. They should be totally banned and the hunters, traders and buyers (whose greed to prize them leads to such) should be jailed, and a global animal rights body as powerful as the UN needs to be there to protect innocent animals from butcher humans!

    • The UN is a giant paper tiger that costs US taxpayers millions of dollars to support in NYC and we give billions to our “allies” each year for who knows what.
Each country needs to control game laws on their own. We don’t need another UN.

      • You have no idea of the blood thirsty history of human kind, in the pre cold war period (before 1946) the world was filled with violence and chaos. In the first two decades of the last (20th) Century alone 30 million people died of war while the population was just 2 billion as of 1920, while in the first two decades of this (21st) century less then 2 million died of war fare, the population nears 8 billion. The UN has prevented WW3 from happening, stoping escalating wars (like the 1967 Six Day Arab_Israeli war) from becoming large scale wars. Today wars stiill happen, but they are mostly in Africa and the Middle East. The vast majority of the world North and Latin America, Europe, Asia its more peaceful than ever before and instead of conflicting with each other as we did in the past (history is filled with territorial conquests, Gengis Khan's 13th Century Mongol Conquests killed 40 million, which is astonishing given the then low population which was barely over a 100 million, they didnt even have guns then, bows and arrows they used but thats a different topic, something like that will never happen again). Thanks to the UN the world is more peaceful than it has ever been in the past, since the 1950s violence and warfare have declined. Sadly this has only ensured the protection of the human kind while we abuse our fellow beings, also since the establishment of the UN World population has more than doubled from 3 billion to 8 billion, given human addiction to violence WW3 would have started long ago, you wouldnt even be born today, (cuban missile crisis in 1962 it was almost inevitable, a war between nuclear powered US and the NATO allies with nuclear powered USSR and the WARSAW pact would have destroyed the world), but the UN has made sure countries now engage in cooperation rather than conflicts and territorial conquests which was the biggest cause of warfare in history (along with religion and ideologies) have no more meaning as UN recognition is mandatory and the UN would intervene in case of any such attempt as they did in the Iraq invasion on Kwuit in the 90s. The UN has resolved so many issues diplomatically, which without it as in the past would have lead to outright warfare. If it werent for UN, you wouldnt have even existed to shout your "America First" slogans today!!!

        • Have more koolaid, you’re clueless about the UN, they’ve done nothing of any importance. Just as a single case in point, JFK controlled the Cuban issue singlehandedly, the UN had nothing to do with it and couldn’t have prevented shit if JFK issued launch orders.
The UN for the most part is ignored, the superpowers call the shots and do as they please. The UN is window dressing and obsolete, it’s predecessor was formed after WWI (the League of Nations) and was supposed to prevent a repeat of that war, and that worked out well right? So well we had to start numbering world wars.
But yeah “I have no idea”.

          • UN did what the League of Nations failed to do, and has maintained peace since. The pre cold war world was volatile and wars happened now and then, leaders like Ghengis Khan, Napoleon and Hitler led conquests that lead to millions of people dying in wars, it is because of UN no such things happens today and no single ruler is allowed to achieve so much power.. It is because of the UN disputes and issues that were once settled through wars are today settled diplomatically. Believe it or not, since the UN was established the world has steadily been becoming more and more peaceful, warfare have declined, there were famines and humanitarian crisis everywhere, they have declined, Europe in most of the medieval eras was a place of eternal conflict Jewish-Roman Wars, the Mongol conquests, the 100 years wars, The 80 years war, the 30 years war, Ottoman–Habsburg wars, Napoleonic wars, and of course the 2 world wars, so many deaths and destruction these wars caused, the savagery of humankind, but now they are all allies cooperating together instead of engaging in conflicts, they have formed the EU, eternal enemies like Britain and France have become eternal friends and so on. Say whatever you want but the UN has indeed succeeded in reducing warfare and violence in the world, research and statistics supports my claims. The peace we take for granted today is to the UN. Yes, I think the use of animal parts in Chinese medicine is ignorant superstition. Rhino horn does not possess any special aphrodisiac qualities! Even if the horn of rhinos was an aphrodisiac, which it isn't, it would be better if all the men in China were impotent and flaccid than for one rhino to be slaughtered! Rhinoceros horn is made of the same stuff as hair and finger nails, nothing magical.

Recently the last male white Rhino died. I repeat, recently the last male white Rhino is dead! Stupid, superstitious Chinese, fuck them!
