Is it normal waiter asked if we were dating?

So I went to a restaurant with my Dad because I hadn't seen him in a while as he lives out of state but I was also there with my Dad's sisters/my aunts and three of my female cousins who are older than me in their 40s. But I was the one sat next to him and the waiter who is probably about late 40s/early 50s asks him if I'm his girlfriend... He's literally like, "is that your girlfriend?" my dad said no she's my daughter and the waiter just said "oh okay". I mean really? Is this normal? I never had this happen to me before.

My dad is 57 years old, I'm 23 and most people think I look 18-20 on average. Soo..what was that about? My dad has brown hair and he does have wrinkles..not loads and loads but a normal amount I suppose. Soo is this normal the waiter assumed I was dating my dad? I mean, dude, I asked my cousins after If I look 50 or something and they just laughed but didn't reply. I'm now thinking I might look 50 even though people all around me mistake me for younger than I am all the time.

Is this normal? The guy didn't seem to be joking as he had a normal face when he asked/after my dad said no.

RUDE!!!! He needs to do his job better by not not asking such personal questions!

Maybe he was confused. Perhaps he thought you were a gold digger and your father was rich. It wasn't his place to ask either way, but that could be the reason.

Normal. I have the same problem when I hang out with my brother. The thing is though, he looks like he could be my twin, yet people still mistake him for a boyfriend.

I have the opposite problem. People think my boyfriend is my dad.

I find your post quite offensive.
I am 68 and my wife is 26. She doesn't look old and is often thought to be my daughter, but I take no offense to that, though it wouldn't take a genius to notice the matching wedding rings.
To think it so awful that a twenty something girl date a 50 something guy is pretty immature and small minded.

Yes. People have different perceptions of age. Or maybe he thought you were 20 and dating a sugar daddy. You can never know.

I was thought to be 30 something once when I was 13.
