Iin, wacky thoughts about abuse victims?

Whenever I hear about abuse victims, children and adults (in the news or through social media), I only think about the male gender. As soon as I hear about it being a person of the female gender, I instantly loose interest or don't really care/ continue to pretend that it is a person of male gender.

I am female but that doesn't really matter because regardless of gender, saying this still makes me sound ignorant. It's just something that crosses my mind and i'm not really sure why.

I like to pretend the victim is Ellen Degenerous.

Even though that sounds messed up, it's a fairly common phenomenon. When people are desensitized to an event, they don't notice it as much until something about it changes. In your case it's the gender of the abuse victim.
