Is it normal to wonder why women carry purses or handbags?

I don't understand why women choose to carry around purses or handbags. Being a man myself, it would just feel too annoying to do that. Sure it might look stylish but from a practical standpoint doesn't make much sense, not to mention how inconvenient it is. Men have everything they need in their pockets, I keep my wallet in one pocket and my phone in the other pocket, I don't see why women can't do the same, and it's just silly for women to carry around makeup or other useless stuff wherever they go. It's also easier for a person to steal a bag if they want, compared to a wallet or phone in your pocket.

    And more importantly, women can't look too svelte if they've got their pockets stuffed with stuff and look all lumpy.
    Even in Levis a gal wants to look her best.

    A lot of women's clothing either has no pockets or only small decorative ones

    They need a safe and practical place to keep their mace, taser and makeup.

    Because women can't get away with just carrying phone-wallet-keys.

    We need some emergency makeup on hand since we're expected to always look perfect, and we need to discreetly carry feminine hygiene products (as xfg13 so eloquently put it).

    Not to mention most of the time we're also expected to have things on hand that guys never bring with them... like pens, note paper, gum, tissues, etc.

    I am a guy who carries a Man Bag over my shoulder and I am PROUD that I do.
    It is soo much easier to put UR keys & Wallet in.
    Plus when I pop to the store - I DON`T have to PAY for a bag !!!
    Also I can easily carry my address book, makeup ...

    Being a woman I carry a purse. In my purse I have $, glasses, hair clips, lady things, pens, charger, and lots more that I use on a daily basis. I can see your point of view though. I try not to carry my purse around when I don't need it. Just a question though... Where do guys stick their keys, and sunglasses?

      My keys are on a chain attached to wallet. I don't use sunglasses, but have seen people put them on their shirt when finished.

    The question is why do guys carry suitcases or backpacks? Or ...fannypacks?!
    Cause some if us have stuff to carry around, Boops!
