Is it normal to wish intelligence and creativity in school was encouraged?

Is it normal I wish intelligence was actually encouraged in schools not discouraged and frowned upon? School generally tends to get angry if children think beyond their age level. If the child hears about a murder and asks "Mother why that man kill all those people? Whats wrong with him" the child is told they are evil for thinking such thoughts. Even though its a reasonable question. People do not just kill for no reason and its not the norm so to a child they have to ask why.

If a child does work or thinks of things above their age level suddenly doctors say there is something wrong since a 6 year old can not think like an adult. Its too early. Yet that would mean the child is just advanced. So why is intelligence and creativity a bad thing? Should we not encourage this? I mean if we did maybe we would have less pregnancy at 15 since people would think "Maybe I should use protection or WAIT". Instead of I am going to sleep with every man I meet assuming they are all going to marry me one day and not think about buying a condom.

I agree with your statement but your example is terrible. You talk about school but then give an example using a parent's response to an innocent question. The questions you ask have to do with emotional maturity and not intelligence. Some topics cannot be understood by a child the same way an adult understands them. This does not mean intelligence is being discouraged, it means the adult does not understand how to communicate to a child. Children are far wiser than we give them credit. Now if a child is solving complicated math equations that most university students struggle with, I highly doubt anyone would discourage that.

    • I suppose you are correct but they don't want a child to be mature. They say "Go colour your book and shut up. Dont ask questions since its sick of you to question it. Since that means you are evil and going to murder someone yourself".

As well as many other things. They seem to encourage kids to do the simple basics and wont encourage advanced material. Since they think little kids need to be drooling and learning ABC. That is intelligence and they want kids to act like kids. So that is discouraging intelligence and maturity.

I think you know some stupid adults. I suppose it is hard to teach intelligence if you have none to begin with :/

Oh, go colour or something, you ask too many questions....you are a sick person for thinking such thoughts!

        Really?

I have honestly never heard an adult tell a child they were evil for asking "why did that man kill all those people?" And the ironic part, this is a childlike question. It is a curiosity. Very natural for children to ask this type of question and it reflects their innocence. Now if they asked why did that man choose to use a bomb over a gun...that's a bit different.

        • No that is how most schools and adults treat children. Some schools even have this thing where they are not allowed to let kids graduate early since they have to stay on course with the other children. So if they have a chance to take extra classes and graduate early they give them extra curricular classes. Which I don't understand since shouldn't we be pushing kids forward not holding them back? You can not graduate early even if you already took all your required classes 2 year ahead of schedule.

I believe you are complaining about compulsory education. This does have issues on both sides. Kids get pushed forward as well as held back to meet curriculum standards. These standards are up for debate and rarely take emotional intelligence into account. Also, what does a 15 year old do with their time if they are not in school and not legal to work? Especially if parents expect schools to raise their children.

I wish it too and, hopefully one day, it will be.

Oh yeah at my school they would crush that. But if you had any imaginings of jesus they were considered revelations.

I went to a Waldorf school for grade school and a public high school. What a world of difference. I will be sending my kids to a Waldorf school, no doubt in my mind. They foster intelligence, creativity, and individuality.

I dropped out of high school. I went to public school up to 8th grade, switched to home schooling, home schooling didn't help. It did help a bit better than the school. I had a tutor every week day for one hour and 30 minutes. But on my own, I just cheated and did not care about it. People like you tend to say ADHD is a over diagnosed unrealistic disorder. Well, I can't focus worth shit, I can get super hyperactive, and annoying. Yet, because of people like you who talk about zombies, I'm a huge pussy and refuse to take pills for it. Which is leading to bullshit.

The traditional school systems truly do suck. I have insomnia. I can't fall asleep fast. And I quit sleeping pills awhile ago. Yet, the assholes made me get up at 6am everyday! Fuck that. There needs to be a school like college. Where you choose what time you come to classes. Also, homework. It's bullshit. You go 7 hours through hell, then come back and are forced to do more hell. When you need to at least have some fucking time for yourself.

Bullying. I was a shy kid. And I did get bullied a good amount. I never told the teachers. So I can't say I hate the way they handle it.

But now that I think about it, I wish I did take those pills, and go to school. Because now I'm lonely. With no diploma. I have to study hard again to get my GED.

In any case, traditional schools need a change.

    • Even if we agreed it was real it does not mean its not OVER DIAGNOSED. In fact they did a study saying ADD/ADHD is one of the most over diagnosed mental illness there is. Simply being a real issue does not mean its not over diagnosed. In fact anything can be over diagnosed. It just means we have very bad doctors who do not want or do not know how to do their jobs. Also I suggested the making school like college will you choose the time. Yet I was given this excuse. "But than kids would be breaking to houses that did not go to school in the day". this seems to be the excuse everyone gives me when I make suggestion of changing the time of school. Aso if you cant focus because you are sleepy it makes sense since that's very early to be going to school. This mind set shows that school is nothing but a Day care center and not really meant for education.

When I have Kids, I will always try to get them to be creative. To think outside the box, to know what lies outside the system. To be more than the idiot Society and Lifestyle that is being advertised and implemented! I always ask questions and seek answers. In School I knew a lot of stuff, my classmates didn't know.
I don't (ever) want to be a part of the ''zombies'' that obey everything the media tells them and to believe everything the government tells you.

We must have our own answers. We must lead our lives ourselves, not be guided and dumbed down by Music, tv, the web and all the mindless Advertising.
Get it through your heads companies! I buy what I want, not what you want! My life, my fucking choice!
