Is it normal to want to live this free?
Some of my fondest memories were spent bouncing down country roads in the back of a pickup truck.
I rode on merry-go-rounds when I was little.
I played with lawn-darts.
I remember challenging authority, with no more repercussion than a heated debate.
I grew up in a diverse neighborhood, where all of my friends had different ethnic backgrounds. We never sugar coated our words, in fact we often teased each other about our differences without concern for offending each other.
No law required me to purchase a service.
Bullies weren't counseled and turned in to school authorities...they got their asses kicked by the big kid with a heart. Sometimes they got their asses kicked by the little kid they picked on, after he learned martial arts.
I was never under a camera's eye when I went to school, worked, or walked into a store...or drove a car.
We didn't get drug tested at random.
Cops dumped our beer out and confiscated our pot...then sent us home after scaring the shit out of us, and sent us home to deal with our parents. (I think they took our pot home and smoked it)
We brought guns to school so we could go hunting afterwards. My shop teacher showed me modifications that made mine more accurate and easier to shoot.
I could talk on the phone without government listening in on my conversation.
We had fewer laws, but we were safer then. Most of all, we could enjoy life without being watched, pampered, and/or...kept safe.
This was the America I grew up in. Is it normal that I miss this? is it normal that I wish my kids could experience a free world?
