Is it normal to want hair different from natural?

I'm a guy that has for years been perplexed by so many women straightening their curly hair or curling their straight hair. Neither seems to like their natural hair. And in the process, they spend lots of money on a host overpriced devices and products. And in the end, they spend even more money on products to fix their hair that they've fried by all the unnatural processing.

Occasionally, I see my gf with her hair natural (like in the morning or after swimming). It has a beautiful and sexy natural wave to it and I've told her I love it. But she hates it and spends a huge amount of time ironing it perfectly straight.

I'm not judging and understand people want to look nice, but just perplexed. So ladies, what do you do with your hair.....

I curl or perm my straight hair 1
I straighten my curly hair 3
I like my naturally straight hair 4
I like my naturally curly hair 8
Frustrated - I just cut it really short 0

I've always had "naturally" curly hair and HATED it, however the gals have always LOVED it. Go figure. It's that kind of hair that always looks a bit messy, but there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it. To brush it, I'd use those metal bristle dog brushes, no shit!
If I'd let it grow long it just kept growing out, not down, like Jimi Hendrix.
Now that it's gone white, it is much straighter and more manageable.

Yeah, my gf liked my wavy hair and encouraged me to grow it long last year and maybe do a pony tail. Instead of growing longer down my back, I just got a bigger and bigger mass of curls at about shoulder length. I got sick of it and chopped it to about one inch a couple weeks ago.

I was known as "eightball" because of the Afro like ball of hair and beard surrounding my face and the two circles my shades made around my eyes looked like a figure 8.

I used to curl my hair back in the day. And I went through a phase of dying it. Women will do crazy things to their hair in the name of beauty. I haven't cared in years. I realized that I have really nice hair that many would pay money to have, and it's easy to manage. Lucky me! I know that's arrogant. But it's naturally straight, a nice shade of brown, and I rarely need to brush it. I don't even have a proper brush. Just a comb.

Sometimes I straighten my naturally straightish hair, sometimes I want to feel like a Victoria's Secret model so I curl it, and other times I don't do shit except brush it. I don't style my hair certain ways because I'm unhappy with my natural look, I just want to switch it up.

I've always embraced my natural hair. It's inherently a bit wavy and wind-tossed :)

I usually leave my hair in the puffy, wavy, frizzy state that it usually is in. I do straighten it on rare occasions and add rainbow clip in hair extensions. I used to bleach it once a year, color it purple, and re-touch the purple every month, but that became too time consuming and it did do more damage to my hair than I originally thought.

My hair is bleached so i have to bleach the roots every month or two. I sometimes put colors in it like turquoise or green or pink. I wash it 1 to 4 times a week. I haven't owned a brush or any styling products in about 13 years. It's always a little messy and that's the way, uh-huh uh-huh I like it. I'm a very knotty girl. When i wake up, i scratch my head and my hair is done :D
