Is it normal to want a travel buddy?

I'm a 50yr old male who has always liked to travel. Lately I've found that I work and stay at home more often and life is getting really boring. I'd like to start travelling again but really don't want to travel alone anymore. Had a bad health experience travelling alone once that scared me. Anyways, I'd really like to find a travel buddy and probably even someone to do local things with like concerts, bike riding etc. I like a womans company but I really don't want a "Relationship", I don't want physical, mental, moral, social, obligations and having to answer to someone. Friends is best.

Is this a strange request?

      Fuck buddies always seem to take the money/favors for sex position. I'm not interesting in paying someone for their company or sex. The travel buddy I'm looking for would need to pay her own way or at least a large portion of it.

      For example I'm looking to go to Cambodia for a week and spending 2 days in Japan. Flight and Hotel for one person is about $5K, so if she can't come up with at least $4k plus her own spending money then she might as well stay home.

          Probably.

          But it would be a mutual thing. She won't be doing me any favors by having sex. In fact sometimes I'd rather have sex with the locals.

              She don't have to be sexy. I had a ugly travel buddy once. We did have sex but she was a former prostitute who actually stopped and joined the work force. She had a good job and make good money. We went to Vegas a few times and New York. She'd be perfect but she got married. I could have sex with her and she'd let me screw a local no problem. Plus she paid her way

    Not at all. I travelled alone a lot and though I enjoyed it - I did wish I had the company of someone whom I could share this experience with.

      Travelling alone has its advantages like going and doing exactly what you want when you want. Not having to deal with people's changing moods while being basically trapped in each others company. etc.

      But you are right, sometimes its really nice to have someone to share and experience.

      These days I really want a travel buddy though.

        Yeah for most parts why I travel alone - I like the flexibility of not having to have a travel itineracy of any kind as I generally like to play it by ear.

        There are days I just want to spend the entire day in my hotel room and just raid the minibar which most people don't like.

          And I like to take local buses, trains etc too. Most times people want to rent a car. One time I flew into LAX and walked from the airport, went to the first liquor store I saw and bought a six pack. From there I just walked down the street drinking beer until I got to a Chinese restaurant and had something to eat. Next I hoped on a local bus to Venice Beach and hug out for a few hours. My hotel was in walking distance from Venice beach so I just made my way there eventually.

            Only one time I had someone game enough to just play it by ear. This time I payed for everything but for their risk they got to see BBKing at the Apollo. This was only a fly in and fly out trip. Nothing over night and all just spur of the moment. I downloaded a map of the subway and bus routes with times and pieced together a flight in, bus ride to a subway, subway to the Apollo and reverse back to the airport for a midnight flight back. It was crazy walking around Harlem in the middle of the night trying to find my way back to the airport. Some of the subway talent was great though. Of course BBKing was great.

              What turned me against traveling alone was a trip to New Orleans by myself. Again I just caught a bus from the airport to my Hotel which was on Canal street in the heart of the city. My bus ride to the hotel didn't actually go past the hotel so I had to get off and walk about a half mile. No problem, again I just went to the first liquor store and purchased a beer for the walk. On my way there I saw a couple getting robbed by knife point. I just casually walked right past them and strolled on down the street. I met a couple of older ladies and hung out with them for awhile, went to a concert to see Luther Vandross, Patti Labelle and some other side line acts. It was a good trip until I got sick, I spent the whole day in my hotel room feeling like I was going to die. Finally on the day I was supposed to leave I gathered up enough strength to make it to the airport. I was still sick for about 3-4 days after I got home. I was like okay thats my last trip alone. Bad thing too is I could have gotten laid by a lady I met at the casino.
