Nah, you could just say, "Many apologies, Mr Minimum Wage Security Officer, Sir, but there is nothing to be concerned about. The metal detector is merely indicating the presence of my incredibly powerful robotic arm with which I can rip metal and strangle people."
I'm sure he'd let you through with just bored look and an indifferent little grunt.
It's shown up in media enough times. My first thought was Deus Ex: Human Revolution. While the extra strength would be nice for carrying things and moving stuff around, I gotta be honest... metal hands seem like they would be really bad in bed, if you know what I mean.
Besides that, they likely wouldn't be that strong. You could probably strangle a guy, but you could probably also already do that. Lifting things requires a little more force from your shoulder, chest, and back, so if the metal parts are restricted to your arm, you wouldn't suddenly be single-handed benchpressing a thousand pounds at the gym.
You could probably still punch through a wall if you swing fast enough, but not a brick one. Your fist wouldn't hurt, though, so there's that. You would just have to pay for repairs.
That's the thing that I think is weird about the whole concept: no matter how strong the arm is, it's attached to a normal human skeleton, and it's hanging off a body with normal human muscles and tendons.
As you say, lifting things involves the whole body, and so trying to lift, say, a car with your robotic arm would require your spine, pelvis and legs to withstand at least a couple of tons bearing down on them.
And even if you could drive a hole in a wall with a single punch without damage to your metal fist, the force of that impact would be felt through your whole body.
If you stop and think about it, the whole thing is pretty damn silly and illogical.
Now that I've vented about that, I'll get back to watching Thor Ragnarok...
