Is it normal to vow never to take harmful drugs, alcohol or cigarettes?

When I tell people i vowed not to take any harmful drugs like weed or something like that, let alone tell them i dont drink or smoke either , they always treat me with hostility or worse : curiosity. People around my age think I am weird and "not fun". I am blackfoot and my people have suffered alcohol and drug addiction for the last 289 years, i do not want to be one of many

    That's cool, keep up the good work. I'm partially Native myself. Most Native tribes have severe problems with alcohol. I'm glad to see that you are trying to change that. I am proud of you. Stick to your beliefs and don't let anyone change them.

    I think you're normal. I know a lot of people who don't engage in substance use, and I think that your decision to avoid the risks associated with substance use is mature and cautious, especially considering your ethnic heritage (that's not a racist remark: Asians and Native Americans lack one of the two human enzymes, alcohol dehydrogenase, that allows us to metabolize alcohol, and are therefore more susceptible to alcohol poisoning, etc.).
    I also don't usually use substances, just because I like to have full control of my mental faculties, and I suggest that you tell people what I do: "Hey, it may be weird, but now you don't have to worry about a DD. I've got your back."

    Good. Cigarettes are the worst fucking things, I wish I'd never started smoking because it's fucking hard to quit.

    You can be part of the straight edge xxx crowd! Google it. I've noticed, a lot of the people associated with being straight edge are also vegan. Whats the deal? More power to them though.

    It's completely normal and very intelligent. Hope that you'll keep the promise. I did the same and ended up consuming alcohol, smoking cigarettes and weeds. I am no alcoholic for sure and I don't smoke weed now but I'm a cigarette addict. Don't ever try!

    I understand not wanting to do them, just rember that the only people thatre against legalizing drugs and alcohol either never did them at sucked at doing drugs and alcohol. I think you should at least give things a try, in a safe and educated way. Or not, just let other people do what they want without judging them, some of the best people I've ever met are or used to be regular users of strong and extremely addictive narcotics. Good and bad people in every subculture.

      ...No OP shouldn't give things a try if he or she is against it. You don't have to try it just to know you don't want to do it. I do drugs now and then, never on a regular basis. I was close to sinking into weed but as soon as I realised it I took a longer break from it and just recently allowed myself to have a smoke at like parties.

      Drugs are FUN, but It isn't MANDATORY to try.
