Is it normal to think we need death board committees to control healthcare cost

As the obesity-diabetes epidemic expands exponentially, there will be huge demand for finite health services. Taxes will become excessive unless a government committee cuts expensive end stage care to terminal patients. The government must decide when you die or taxes will sink our country.

Let's get 'death boards' going now! Any opinions?

That is why government controlled healthcare is terrible; they get to decide when its time for you to go.

A lot of other taxes could be cut before that.

Under open market care, costs are controlled by denying care to high risk people. Not as bad but still makes for an inefficient system.

Let me guess. You're a lonely unpopular person with a dim view of humanity who is too negative to get positive attention and too shy to disrupt people in real life so you deliberately post gloomy/offensive posts online to get attention. I could be wrong, but that is what I am getting from this.

    • Actually, I'm a socially engaged and somewhat controversial person that can argue either side of an issue. I have a friend who lived in a country with socialized medicine. She was given maintenance for a cancerous condition and denied surgery. It lead to an early death.

My assertion is that these countries spend lots of money on prevention which is cost effective. If you have a serious condition, they cut corners to save money.

I would like you to articulate your opinion because I am optimistic that we can all learn by sharing ideas.

It's all well and good to say that as a totally detached story OP, but you have to remember the families and people who are actually going through terminal illnesses and what emotions they're experiencing.

You can't just kill off someone because "they're doomed anyway", A. because in some rare cases people have actually survived when it was previously thought hopeless and B. because it should be up to their loved ones whether they want to spend those final times with that person or not.

So, no, let's fucking not because it's insensitive and will inevitably and obviously lead to public outcry. Fine idea, I suppose, but seriously oversimplifies the problem and "solution".

    • Other countries with socialized medicine have committees that decide when medical care will not be paid for. The decision must made. Do you understand why you don't get to make that decision?
