Is it normal to think that women are meaner to each other than men are to men?

i saw a meme online, where two girls meet and compliment each other on their hair or nails, and they break up their friendship after 6 months. but two guys meet and start off insulting each others' mothers in a joking way, and they stay friends forever. it's just a joke but there is a grain of truth to it. i feel like guys are more accepting or tolerant compared to girls, who rely more on status, are more emotional, and honestly can be pretty nasty to each other underneath the facade of being "sweet". guys are more straightforward i feel like.

I can see why you think that. In general, I think women are more sensitive and emotional. Being a guy myself, I understand we just like to give each other shit a lot, which is our way of joking around I guess. I've seen women get pretty nasty to each other, but I think men are usually more aggressive and violent when it comes to REAL conflicts.

Women are more emotional and do get mean with each other. They are more likely to hit below the belt and more likely to hold a grudge. Men get physical and then move on.

    • It's probably a throw back to a more primal time. Men don't beat around the bush, you fight, establish the heirarchy and than go from there.

It's your perception, but it seems like male friendships are based off of something that I cannot simply understand.

I don't understand calling each other names or insulting someone when you mean it...and then making up later. It makes no sense because that, to me, tells me that the person doesn't respect me AT ALL.

Just because a friendship doesn't work out by women doesn't mean that we're more mean to each other.
