Is it normal to think that racism will never go away?

Unfortunately, people will always continue to target and discriminate against other people based on perceived differences. The only way that I can imagine racism taking a hit is the scenario of when an alien species attacks Earth, then every human would have to come together and realize that we are all one as brothers and sisters in alliance fighting for the sake of our humanity and right to exist in the universe. It would also make us more environmentally conscious because we would have a new interest in protecting our home planet.

What's wrong with being a racist? Most people are racist they just don't actively or openly oppose other races. However due to the relative anonymity of the internet people can speak openly about it.

The factors that go into why we dislike or feel uncomfortable around certain people are so numerous and diverse. Labelling it all as racism or sexist only serves to dismiss the individual's feelings and fails to address the actual causes of their prejudice.

Racism will stay until the behaviour of the average individual of a race that acts stupid, changes to the better.

I hope it does because it should never have existed... I've never understood how a Colour of someone's skin can be such an issue. I'm white and haven't got a racist bone in my body.

I think racism will go away once physical bodies become obsolete. That's not to say it won't be replaced with some other prejudice, of course.

History continues with periods of enlightenment, and barbarianism. I am starting to appreciate how difficult it is to cause enlightenment, and how easy it is to lapse into barbarian behavior.

You basically described the movie District 9.

Until that alien invasion happens, racism will not go away anytime soon. Humans need that conflict, and though we're smart enough to resolve our own problems with each other, some are just too stupid to do so and rather wallow in the hate for others.

I've had similar thoughts regarding our reaction to an alien invasion. However as I age, my faith in humanity diminishes in direct proportion to what I view as man's inhumanity to man.
From the increase in harming children to a fanatic of ISIS cutting another human being's head off with a dull knife, I feel mankind is doomed. And why shouldn't such a failure in evolution die out?
