Is it normal to think that people with white guilt are cowards

I don't hate white people. I just dislike the ones with guilt. They annoy me so much. The ones in my town think that just because their great great grandaddys own slaves they have to repent in some way and fix our issues. They treat us Hispanics like toddlers acting like we're defenseless and less privileged. It's patronizing and annoying. I don't do it, but some of my fellow minorities take advantage of these people's white guilt and run them to the ground. I wish they'd have more confidence and stop being such whiny cowards.

I don't feel guilty because I never owned a slave and you never picked cotton.

    • Exactly!

  • I'm very proud of my white heritage and my ancestors. I love my history and my culture. If I could I would have stopped mindless slavery, but I can't. That's it, it happened, people must get over it. Whites were also enslaved by Muslims a lot, so this isn't just a one-way thing by the way. This guilt is garbage it simply selects one side of the story and pushes that crap.

As long as you're a good person that respects my liberty and my existence, I'll have respect for you, too.

  • I have no guilt for something that ended 160 years before I was born.

I live in the infamous selma, Alabama and drive across the equally famous Edmund pettus bridge quite often. I feel my gut wrench when I see some white bred family who are probably from Maine and have never personally known anyone black smiling into cameras by the national landmark placard. I just know theyre going to post their cheesy little family photo on Facebook to show all their white guilt friends how non racist they are. Makes me want to push them all over the railing into the river below.

    • You should push them.
edit: on second thought, don't. I'm not trying to create violence.

I feel like white guilt is useless. Don't be guilty about what your ancestors did, work to dissemble the current power structures in America that continue to divide us like the:

    1. Medical racial bias (https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/patient-care-articles/pritzker-medical-student-research-on-race-bias)
    2. Racial profiling (https://news.stanford.edu/2016/06/28/stanford-researchers-develop-new-statistical-test-shows-racial-profiling-police-traffic-stops/)
    3. Our prison system (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/3/7/14834454/exoneration-innocence-prison-racism),
    4. The continuing after effects of the war on drugs on minority communities (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/249720341_Social_Consequences_of_the_War_on_Drugs_the_Legacy_of_Failed_Policy)
    5. Red-lining (http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-modern-day-redlining-20180215-story.html)
    6. Our educational system (https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2015/01/28/us-education-still-separate-and-unequal)
    7. Job Discrimination (https://csgjusticecenter.org/reentry/posts/researchers-examine-effects-of-a-criminal-record-on-prospects-for-employment/ AND https://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2014/06/27/white-high-school-drop-outs-are-as-likely-to-land-jobs-as-black-college-students/#476821cb7b8f)

These are the real issues that minorities continue to face. I didn't pick cotton, but the racist structure built from that racism is still alive and needs to be dissembled. I don't care about Timmy who said Nigger. I'm upset about institutional /systems/.

There's literally not one single white person that feels guilty because of what happened in the 1800's. There are, however, plenty of white people who feel bad about all of the racism that still exists today. One person's "white guilt" is another person's "empathy."

Also, fun fact: I've never heard the phrase "white guilt" used unironically by a person who wasn't extremely racist.

I feel like that's kinda racist, i mean, feeling that guilt for black people when they didn't do anything.

Can't they just like, dont care at all? just fucking go on with your life and dont treat people of color diferent, dont be more apologetic or more "Kind" just because they are black. It'll just create a weird situation between people

    • It definitely does. They have zero pride and i just want to slap the shit out of them every time they claim to "fight for me" or when they get offended when someone who's Hispanic makes Hispanic jokes.

I see where you’re coming. I’ve got some white friends that say “it sucks being white, I wish I was asian like you.” It pisses me off. Some people have to stay in their own race, and be grateful for what they got. Since white people are privileged I don’t see why they’d want to change their race. It’s easier being a white person in America then a black person. Truth be told.

really I wish I was white and I'm black/Hispanic to be honest if I had to choose Id rather be white then black/Hispanic. I tried to kill myself once because I was mad that I was born I'm over it now but I don't see how some whites want to be something other then white in America.

We should stop looking at ourselves as white or black or brown and just look at ourselves as people. The color of ones skin should not be something we have pride or shame for. We are all apart of the same race. The human one.

No hard feelings should be passed on from generation to generation which promotes hate. Negros were and still are looked on with distain because they were brought up that negros were inferior. Also some people still don't like Germans because of WWIII and Hitler. Slavery is over and so is WWII. Let it go. It's over

My hair is turning white. I've been dying it my favorite color for most of my life since the age of fifteen, but now when the roots grow out there's more and more white hair amongst the dark ash brown. To be completely honest I haven't dyed my hair since mid October, because I can't decide what to do. I find myself being strangely fascinated, dare I say somewhat hypnotized by white hair around my face. I wish there was a way to dye it and keep some of the white hair around my face.

      Sorry for the rant.

I fucking hate seeing white guilt. White people are privileged and instead of helping, we just choose to sit aside and pull the "Well I didn't do anything" card and not change what's happening in this moment.

Most of the time, white guilt is just self-indulged garbage. It is racist, annoying and pitiful.

Then tell them. Make it clear. You're so much more important than white people trying to get off because they're "doing the right thing" smh. They're dense as fuck and won't change otherwise.
